Capcom has spent considerable time working to improve the performance of PC version of Monster Wilds, following the technical issues that have plagued the game since launch. Those efforts, along with additional optimization work specifically for Nintendo’s hardware, have helped bring the demanding action RPG to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Now, with the game approaching its December 4, 2026, release, Capcom has released a free demo for players to see how it performs for themselves.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo is available now on the Nintendo Switch 2 and includes the opening portion of the game, allowing players to experience the beginning of the story and explore the Forbidden Lands. Players can create their own Hunter and Palico, take on monsters in the Windward Plains, and progress through Chapter 1-3, “To the Forest.” Better yet, any progress made in the demo carries over to the full game.
The demo doesn’t support online multiplayer, but players can team up through local wireless play on Nintendo Switch 2. It’s also an opportunity to see how Capcom has managed to bring such a demanding game to Nintendo’s hybrid console, especially given the performance concerns surrounding the other versions.
When Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, it will include all previously released Title Update content, along with cross-play support for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
If you’ve been curious about how Monster Hunter Wilds would run on the Nintendo Switch 2, now’s your chance to find out. Download the demo, give it a try, and see what you think. While I have no plans on playing the game on the Switch 2, I’ve seen enough of what Capcom has done for the device to believe them when they say they’ve performance magic and will be checking it out the demo at least. I really want to see how well Capcom’s optimization efforts have paid off.
