From the moment 4-year-old Cameron first stepped out into Glimmer in Spyro 2, he knew video games were going to play a central role in the rest of his life. Though he never planned to make it the focal point of his career, Cameron spent the vast majority of his spare time growing up playing games, and following graduation from the University of Reading, he thought he'd try his hand at writing a few reviews. Six years later, Cameron has reviewed countless games, written thousands of news and feature pieces, and interviewed a wide range of developers for GameRant.

According to a new report, Grand Theft Auto 6 might have already reached a very impressive sales milestone. A month out from launch, Grand Theft Auto 6 may have already made over $600 million in revenue, based on pre-orders alone.

934 days after its first official reveal, pre-orders finally went live for Grand Theft Auto 6. Two versions of the highly-anticipated open world crime game are currently available for pre-order, one being the $80 Standard Edition, and the other being the $100 Ultimate Edition. Both versions of Grand Theft Auto 6 are only available digitally, and pre-ordering either one will grant players the 'Vintage Vice City Pack', which includes some exclusive cosmetics, an in-game garage, and a unique vehicle.

GTA 6 Has Reportedly Sold Over 6 Million Copies

The market analytics platform Sensor Tower has just updated its Grand Theft Auto 6 sales tracker. Sensor Tower claims that 6.45 million copies of GTA 6 have already been pre-ordered across PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, bringing in a combined total of $630 million in revenue. There's still no official word from Rockstar Games or Take-Two regarding GTA 6's pre-order numbers, however, so fans should take this report with a pinch of salt.

Sensor Tower's latest report also offers insight into how GTA 6 is reportedly selling on each of its launch platforms. The most recent sales data shows that PlayStation 5 is taking the clear lead, having sold 4.8 million copies already. Xbox Series X/S, on the other hand, has sold 1.66 million copies. Percentage-wise, PlayStation currently has a 76% share of GTA 6 sales to Xbox's 26%.

These numbers might sound a bit dramatic, but they are in line with the current ratio of PS5 to Xbox Series X/S owners, with PlayStation reportedly having around a 70% share of the console market. In response to a recent report from The Verge claiming that GTA 6 pre-order numbers were much higher on PlayStation than Xbox, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball claimed that the company is "very happy" with GTA 6 pre-orders on its platform, that it's "breaking records for Xbox," and most importantly, that the number of pre-orders is "matching" Xbox's current share of the market.

If Sensor Tower's figures are accurate, and Grand Theft Auto 6 has indeed sold over 6 million copies, it would already make GTA 6 one of the best-selling games of 2026. Currently, Resident Evil Requiem is reported to be the best-selling game of 2026, having sold over 8 million copies by the end of July. Crimson Desert is believed to be 2026's second best-selling game so far, having sold 6 million by August. With more than 6 million copies already under its belt, it seems very likely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take the crown in the weeks following its long-anticipated release.
