Freehold Games and Kitfox Games have revealed Caves of Qud: Diaspora, the first major DLC expansion for Caves of Qud, and it will be released via early access on PC Steam.

Diaspora will bring in playable animals & plants, a new weapon type, new creatures, new true kin arcology & castes, better road & river systems, mountable saltbacks, and much more. Caves of Qud is now available on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. It launches soon for Nintendo Switch 2 and is in development for mobile.

Developer Freehold Games and publisher Kitfox Games are happy to announce Caves of Qud: Diaspora, the first DLC expansion to award-winning roguelike & RPG epic Caves of Qud. Diaspora is releasing in Steam Early Access on December 9th, 2026. Watch the announcement teaser revealing the new playable genotypes, mutated animals and plants. Freehold is launching Diaspora in Early Access in order to give the time and space needed for their vision to come to fruition. By releasing in EA, players can expect frequent updates that will evolve the initial features into the final, full-featured expansion.

Diaspora’s core features at Early Access launch

Playable animals & plants: Choose from one of several animal and plant stocks and customize your character as before. Play as a dog, cat, frog, chameleon, vine, tree, etc...

New true kin arcology & castes: Play as one of the denizens of the Great Rondures on the Ocean of Iber— Propeller, Starsteer, Man of Kelp, or Delphine.

New weapon type: Spears - attack from two tiles away!

New creatures & items: A great host of new creatures have migrated to the surface and subterranean habitats of Qud. Along with them come the artifacts of their disparate cultures.

Dromad caravans & mountable saltbacks: Mount the saltback and treat with the dromads on their motile shell-bazaars.

Better road & river systems: Road and river networks use a more sophisticated set of worldbuilding algorithms to snake their way through Qud. Follow a road and there's a good chance you'll arrive at an interesting location.
