Over on the LEGO Ideas site, Creator "Pester78" has uploaded images of their latest masterplan: a LEGO diorama celebrating the legendary LucasArts games The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) and its sequel Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (1991)
The multi-level diorama replicates several locations pulled from the beloved adventures, which rank among the most recognisable point-'n'-click games in the entire genre, housed within the mammoth mountains of Melee Island. Instantly recognisable are tributes to the SCUMM bar, the International House of Mojo, and an outlet from the popular retail chain Stan's Previously Owned.
A range of cute minifigures are also on deck, including heroes Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley, salesman Stan, the unnamed Voodoo Lady, and, of course, the nefarious supernatural pirate LeChuck. There's also a monkey. Because it's Monkey Island.
Pester78 notes that they are proud of how stacked out the diorama is with notable items and Easter Eggs, taken from the games and their notoriously nonsensical puzzles. There's even a little command board, repping the Monkey Island series click-based controls. How many references can you spot?
As a "LEGO Idea" submission, The LEGO Secret of Monkey Island diorama is looking for support, and site users can show their interest in the form of votes. As of the time of writing, Pester78's set has received 880 votes. LEGO Ideas submissions require 10,000 votes before an idea is submitted for review to the LEGO team, where it will be considered for production.
There are over 400 days left until the deadline, so Pester78's set has plenty of time to win over the LucasArts faithful. The set already has the approval of none other than Lucasfilm Games Executive Producer Craig Derrick, who is no doubt a very welcome supporter in Pester78's corner.
Previous LEGO video game sets that began as independent Creator ideas include the original LEGO Minecraft set (before the official line began), the LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone set, and the LEGO Dungeons and Dragons Red Dragon set. Myriad franchises have been suggested by Creators since the Ideas platform began - including Metroid, Baldur's Gate, Super Smash Bros. and Portal.
And remember y'all, the plural of LEGO is LEGO.
