CD Projekt RED has just given Cyberpunk 2077 players another substantial reason to return to Night City with Update 2.5, also known as the Edgerunners 2 Update, now live on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store versions on Mac. Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version will receive it in the coming days. Despite its anime-themed cover, this is far more than a complimentary patch with crossover items, adding quests, dual wielding, cyberware customization, cross-platform mod support, and tech improvements.
During the accompanying REDstreams presentation, Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko said the team wanted to deliver something more substantial than Update 1.6's tie-in with the original Edgerunners season in 2022. The studio's goal was to make Night City feel more alive while giving returning players new ways to experience it. The patch was co-developed with Virtuos, which also contributed to several previous Cyberpunk 2077 updates.
The crossover with the animated TV series takes place in Clampdown, a new side quest set before Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. According to the stream, it involves the last job of King's team and lets players meet King, Mishuga, Miguel, and Emily. The quest was developed alongside the people at STUDIO TRIGGER working on the anime, with returning voice actors helping maintain consistency between the two productions. To unlock the mission, players must complete The Heist and two gigs for Wakako, then wait for her message. The quest also offers a five-piece equipment set based on King's appearance. That's not all, either: the new HKGN 102.0 FM radio station brings 16 songs from the two Edgerunners series into the game, letting players take more of the anime’s soundtrack along on their drives through Night City.

Dual Wielding Finally Gives V a Proper Gunslinger Build
One of the biggest gameplay additions is Double Trouble, a new perk in the Cool attribute tree that allows V to dual-wield Power-category pistols and revolvers. Four auxiliary perks support the new playstyle, which also gets its own special Photo Mode poses.
Players can mix and match compatible weapons, including Iconics, while retaining their individual effects. There are penalties involved, and the selected perks influence how effective those combinations become. Sasko explained that restricting the feature to pistols and revolvers was a deliberate balancing decision: letting players run around with two shotguns would have required a rather different approach. Still, it's a surprisingly meaningful addition for anyone considering another playthrough. The developers specifically highlighted the opportunity to experiment with combinations such as Jackie’s guns.
Cross-Platform Mods Reach Consoles, With More to Come
Arguably the update's most impactful long-term addition is integrated mod support powered by mod.io. Whereas PC players were the only ones benefitting from mods and had to do it the hard way, using third-party launchers and injectors, any Cyberpunk 2077 player can now browse and install a selection of community creations directly through an in-game menu. CDPR described this as a first step into cross-platform modding, with more mods becoming available over time.
During the stream, the developers said they worked closely with some of the established Cyberpunk modders to prepare the launch selection, including cosmetic additions, gameplay changes, and new quests. The menu supports downloading, enabling, and disabling mods, although Sasko cautioned that combining too many can destabilize the game. Additional functionality is planned in the weeks following launch.
There is an important caveat for console players: achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing from a modded save. Such saves are now identified with a dedicated icon in the Load Game menu.

Customize V's Chrome and Uncover More of Night City
Update 2.5 introduces five Glamdocs, new characters who specialize in changing the appearance of V’s arm cyberware. Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System can all receive new looks, with 40 styles discussed during the stream. Each Glamdoc has a distinct shop and an introductory scene featuring new voiceover and animation.
Customization includes color options, though these follow the identities of the relevant corporations and factions rather than allowing unrestricted palettes. The developers used Arasaka as an example: expect variations on its recognizable blacks and reds rather than bright pink hardware. More colorful alternatives are available elsewhere.
The patch also adds five clothing collections: Maxiwear, Jinguji, NetWatch, and IconAmerica outfits distributed among vendors, with another collection arriving later. The previously promotional NUS Infiltrator set becomes purchasable in Kabuki and Japantown, while four new TWINTONE skins for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech are available through Twitch Drops. Some formerly NPC-exclusive hairstyles are now available to V, too.
On the narrative side, Welcome to Paradise sends players on a guided tour narrated by Night City founder Richard Night. It unlocks after The Heist and Street Cred level 15, and the developers recommend paying attention to discrepancies between the narration and what is actually visible around you. There is supposedly a mystery beneath the sightseeing.
Finally, players can discover 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards through an extension of Fool on the Hill, earning a special reward for finding the complete set.

DLSS 4.5, Console FOV, and More Technical Improvements
The technical additions are important, too. Update 2.5 adds in-game NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 support, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and the second-generation transformer model. There is also support for MetalFX Frame Interpolation on Mac and glasses-free 3D on compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors, with settings to adjust viewing comfort. HDR rendering has reportedly been improved on compatible displays with more accurate colors, brightness, and contrast.
AMD FSR 3 upscaling has been removed from the available options, while FSR 2.1, FSR 4, and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation remain, and there's a new toggle for FSR Anti-Lag 2. Console players finally get an FOV slider, while other changes include ray tracing optimizations and PS5 Pro performance improvements.
On the quality-of-life side, CD Projekt RED introduced grouping saves by playthrough and adding filters to apartment and vehicle stashes. The fixes address, among other things, ineffective PS5 HDR adjustments, a Switch 2 insufficient-storage save error, Film Grain not working, and a progression-blocking Delamain problem in Things Done Changed.
“We said no more updates, but you know how it happens,” Sasko joked near the end of the presentation. With new narrative content, a fresh combat build, and an integrated mod browser extending the game's possibilities, Update 2.5 certainly looks like way more than a modest anime tie-in.
The Edgerunners branding may provide the occasion, but there is plenty here for players who simply want another excuse to get lost in Night City. Who knows, maybe if the studio sees enough players returning, it could eventually consider a new DLC. The Witcher 3 is getting an expansion after over ten years, after all.
