Remedy Entertainment's CONTROL Resonant is a very solid action game, and one of the developer's best in my opinion, but while playing it to put together our guides, I couldn't help but feel that its combat system is full of missed opportunities. Dylan's Aberrant weapon forms have a lot of combo potential, but the fact that you are limited to just one primary and secondary form and one combo finisher feels needlessly limiting.

However, on PC, the game's combat is no longer this limited, thanks to the Dylan May Cry mod, which makes CONTROL Resonant a worthy challenger for CAPCOM's Devil May Cry series' crown as one of the best character action franchises of all time.

Over on the CharacterActionGames subreddit, user atomicbentobox introduced the latest update of their mod, which brings the game's combat mechanics closer to those of the Devil May Cry series with new features that realize the game's full potential. "I just released an update that adds a brand new ability to the game: Trick. It includes Air Trick, Trick Down and Trick Up, essentially how they are in DMC5 which I used as the basis," the modder wrote.

For those not familiar with these mechanics, the Trick abilities in the Devil May Cry series define Dante's Trickster style since Devil May Cry 3, granting him access not only to a fast dodge maneuver with tons of invincibility, but also the ability to instantly move towards any enemy, warp in the air, or drop to the ground. Needless to say, these are gamechangers for CONTROL Resonant's fast-paced combat, as they make the game even faster.

However, this isn't the only new addition of the latest version of the Dylan May Cry mod. "This update also includes motion inputs, where you can assign any attack to forward, back, forward/back, back/forward + light or heavy attack inputs. Together with the mod's existing light and heavy customizable combos, it really opens up the combat," the modder detailed. As they said, this is another significant addition, as it allows the player to bind certain parts of Dylan's moveset to certain motion inputs for instant access, like in a proper character action game. The addition of a hold-on lock option completes CONTROL Resonant's transformation into the closest thing we could have gotten to a new entry in the Devil May Cry series.

With the Dylan May Cry, Combat Ranking System, and Weapon Switching mods (perfect for those who aren't comfortable with complex controls but still want to enjoy more combo possibilities), CONTROL Resonant has already become a very different game without Remedy's intervention in only a few weeks. Hopefully, the Finnish developer will look at how much these improve the solid experience they crafted for the second entry in the series, and consider implementing some of these features in a future game.
