Today, developer Super Creative and publisher Smilegate announced that their 1st Anniversary update to their dark fantasy roguelike role-playing game title ‘Chaos Zero Nightmare’ is now live across PC and mobile. Dubbed “A Promise Upon the Snow”, this update brings about a new season of Galactic Disaster, along with the new Seasonal Combatant “Rossweisse”.

In the first chapter of the story that opens Season 5, the Captain (the protagonist) and their companions, isolated by a mysterious disaster, arrive at the newly emerged Chaos, “Celestial Bulwark,” where a variety of adventures unfold. Players will also encounter new characters, including Rossweisse, Apostle of Kyrken, the Goddess of Cycles, and uncover secrets surrounding another god, Diallos.

Rossweisse, a key character in the story, joins the roster as a new Seasonal Combatant. As a Justice Attribute Striker and an “Apostle” who acts on behalf of the Goddess of Cycles, her design incorporates details inspired by her background, including the five traditional colors (Obangsaek) symbolizing Yin-Yang and the Five Elements and a weapon modeled after the “Saingeom,” which is said to ward off calamities. Rossweisse’s key card is “Flicker Blade.” Flicker Blade splits into two cards, “Shard: Light” and “Shard: Dark,” which are positioned at opposite ends of the hand and interact with other cards as they are used to provide various effects.

The background features geometric shapes and includes text detailing her role as a combatant and attributes like 'Justice' and 'Striker'.

When certain conditions are met, the two cards combine into a single card that can unleash a powerful skill. The story surrounding Rossweisse’s past can be explored in the “Trauma Code”, which will open alongside her release.

As the update arrives in celebration of CZN’s 1st anniversary, it also introduces a variety of new systems and quality-of-life improvements. First, the new “Card Skin” system has been added, allowing players to change the illustrations on Combatant cards. Card Skins were first introduced during the April Fools’ event and received an enthusiastic response from players. A new “Special” grade has also been added to the Attire system, which changes the appearance of Combatants. Special-grade Attire change all animations and Unique Card illustrations for the corresponding Combatant and feature dozens of exclusive voice lines.

In addition, a new “Exploration Passive” feature has been added to Partners equipped by Combatants, further expanding their utility. ★4 Partners will have two buff effects, while ★5 Partners will have three, providing beneficial effects to the entire party when playing Chaos and Sortie. Lastly, the new “Select and Apply Divine Epiphany” feature allows players to apply an Epiphany from a god of their choice to a card when editing acquired Save Data.

The Supply Store for the new Chaos, “Celestial Bulwark,” will also open. At the Supply Store, players can exchange special currency obtained by playing Celestial Bulwark for character acquisition currency and growth materials.

Meanwhile, Smilegate will hold the “Nightmare Carnival” event through December 2 to celebrate CZN’s 1st anniversary. During the event period, players can receive 10 Free Rescues per day for a total of 70, as well as a variety of rewards simply by logging in, including a ★5 Combatant/Partner Selection Ticket, and 1,600 Crystals. Players can also obtain character acquisition currency and special Stickers through check-in and in-game events.

From today through December 23, players can enjoy the “Nightmare Dream Park” minigame in-game. Players can place various facilities throughout the Dream Park and develop them, while increasing the satisfaction of visiting Combatants to earn revenue. Smilegate also plans to hold an offline charitable campaign to support children facing food insecurity, in connection with the minigame.

Kim Joo Hyung, Head of Business at Smilegate, stated, “CZN is celebrating its 1st anniversary thanks to the support of our players. We hope everyone enjoys the update and events we’ve prepared as a token of our appreciation. In particular, with the addition of a new story and Combatant, as well as various new systems and quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback, we believe players will be able to experience many changes firsthand.”
