Yuggidrasil, a gameplay hack of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul for Game Boy Advance is simultaneously the Yu-Gi-Oh! you remember AND the Yu-Gi-Oh! as you've possibly never even imagined. Duel Monsters has always been played many ways. Duelist Kingdom had its own rules, Battle City had others, the early games had theirs, and every group of friends had their own house rules at the lunch table. Yuggidrasil is built on that spirit. It's a sandbox for trying new ideas, mixing old ones, and finding the way you want to duel.
Press SELECT on the main menu, and a brand-new Options screen opens with 36 house rules. Some come from the anime and manga, some from the early Yu-Gi-Oh! video games, some from modern formats, and some are completely new. Each one is a switch, and you can combine them freely.Everything starts on Normal, so until you change something, it's the classic game exactly as you remember it.

  • Duelist Kingdom: turn on Random Field and every duel is fought on a random Forest, Wasteland, Mountain, Sogen, Umi, or Yami. Add Field Boost and those fields hit like they did on TV: a 30% surge, so Summoned Skull under Yami rises from 2500 to 3250. Add 2000 Life Points, no direct attacks, and a loss if your field is ever empty, and you're on Pegasus's island.
  • Battle City: Magic Limit brings back Kaiba's rule of one Spell from the hand per turn, and when you're losing, Destiny Draw lets you trust the heart of the cards: once per duel, pick your next draw from anywhere in your Deck.
  • Orichalcos: split your field into a front line that protects the monsters behind it.

The original game had hundreds of cards nobody ever played. Here, they finally get a reason to exist:

  • Star Perks: keep a humble Level 1, 2, or 3 monster on the field to unlock bonuses: fewer Tributes, extra draws, a second summon, or a free Fusion.
  • No more stuck bosses: Gate Guardian, the Moths, the Toons, Ritual monsters, and Fusion monsters can all be Tribute Summoned like any other monster.
  • Fusion freedom: fuse without Polymerization, or use substitute materials, so your Fusion Deck becomes part of the game instead of a collector's binder.
  • Alignments: the rock-paper-scissors of the earliest games returns. Water beats Fire, Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Earth, Earth beats Water, and Light and Dark beat each other. Suddenly a small monster with the right Attribute can bring down a giant.
  • All Types & All Attributes: inspired by the Battle Pack draft format, every monster counts as every Type and Attribute. Legendary Sword fits anyone, every Field Spell powers everyone, and "destroy all Dragons" becomes a Dark Hole. Wild, unpredictable, and a lot of fun.
  • Kinship: monsters grow stronger next to allies that share their Type or Attribute.
  • Modern touches: piercing damage, summoning sickness, mulligans, and first-turn rules give attacks weight and make defense matter.

Not sure where to start? Pick a preset:

  • Original: the classic game.
  • Uplift: a format designed to lift up the cards the original left behind.
  • Battle City and Duelist Kingdom: the tournaments from the anime.
  • Rush Duel: draw up to a full hand, summon as often as you like, and fuse without Polymerization.
  • Chaos: exactly what it sounds like.

Or turn on Roulette, and each duel adds 1 to 3 random rules for that duel only. Every match becomes a surprise.
You're not the only one using the new rules. Computer opponents understand them and adapt: they Tribute with reduced counts, fuse without Polymerization, attack around Alignments, play for Kinship bonuses, and obey every limit just like you do.Plus some handy quality-of-life touches: press SELECT during your turn to see every active rule, and the bottom bar now shows a monster's ATK/DEF, Level, Type, and Attribute while it's in your hand.

  • You'll need your own copy of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul (USA).
  • Apply the patch with Rom Patcher JS (or your service of choice) right in your browser. The patcher checks your ROM, so it won't accept the wrong version.
  • Your saves from the original game work, and your settings are stored in your save file.
