Team Resilience beat Zenith 2-0 on Friday 16 October in the second quarter-final of the BLAST Slam China Closed Qualifier for season 9. The best-of-three playoff tie finished inside two games, and the result books a Saturday meeting with Team Tidebound for the Chinese roster.
The qualifier runs from 15 October to 18 October, so there is little time to rest. Resilience will not mind.
A 25-minute opener, then a 44-minute grind
The first game was over in 25 minutes. Zenith never got the series level after that quick start.
Game two was a different kind of contest. It stretched to 44 minutes, close to double the length of the opener, before Team Resilience closed it out to complete the sweep. Zenith made them work for the second win, but the scoreline still reads as a clean one.
Five straight wins for the rank 22 side
Resilience came in as the stronger team on paper. They sit 22nd in the Elo power rankings with a rating of 1765 and a 22-10 record across 32 rated matches, while Zenith are unranked.
The form backs that up. This is a fifth successive victory for Team Resilience, following a run through the DreamLeague China Closed Qualifier for season 30 in which they beat Imperial Power 2-0, Cloud Rising 2-1 and Yakult Brothers twice, 2-1 and then 3-0. Their last defeat was a 2-1 loss to Yakult Brothers at the previous BLAST Slam China Closed Qualifier, which gives this event a slightly personal edge.
Zenith arrived on a mixed note. Their DreamLeague qualifier campaign included wins over The goal of all life is death, Cloud Rising and Cloud Dawning, but it finished with a 2-0 loss to Yakult Brothers. This defeat makes it two losses in a row.
Team Tidebound up next as Yakult Brothers and Xtreme Gaming also advance
Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, Xtreme Gaming beat Cloud Dawning 2-0 in Quarterfinal 3 and Yakult Brothers beat Novus Gaming 2-0 in Quarterfinal 4. That keeps Yakult Brothers, the team that last beat Resilience in this competition, in the mix for a possible rematch later in the bracket.
First comes Team Tidebound. Team Resilience face them on Saturday 17 October, looking to make it six wins on the bounce with the qualifier due to wrap up on 18 October.
