eFootball’s “modified” unlimited version could put you and its developers in hot water as KONAMI reportedly comes knocking

  • eFootball's unofficial modified version offers unlimited GP, coins, unlicensed clubs, and iconic player cards.
  • The build reportedly features Cristiano Ronaldo's Madrid and United versions, alongside Henry and Zidane.
  • An eFootball community account claims KONAMI is investigating the developers, with possible legal action expected.

Imagine opening eFootball and finding Cristiano Ronaldo in both his Real Madrid and Manchester United days, Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane with Big Time cards, clubs that aren’t officially licensed, and enough GP and coins to build pretty much any squad you want. Sounds like a dream for eFootball players, right?

Well, an unofficial modified version of the game is attempting to make that dream a reality. If you do not know, this version has been in active discussion in the community for a week now, and it definitely looks super fun. However, it is now attracting attention for another reason, and it could be a little troublesome.

According to a post shared by Zahafc on X, who has been accurate in delivering eFootball info previously, KONAMI has reportedly begun investigating the developers behind the modified APK, with possible legal action expected.

The craze of the new version is beyond new cards and clubs

The unofficial version, which I’d like to call an All-Stars build, appears to push eFootball’s existing gamebase much further than the official version allows.

You get access to clubs and kits that aren’t licensed in the official release, alongside a collection of players and cards that would make most Dream Teams jealous. Want to use Cristiano Ronaldo in a Real Madrid kit or revisit his Manchester United days? Both versions reportedly feature in the game, alongside legends such as Henry and Zidane.

Then there is the unlimited GP and coin access, and there are plenty of epic packs too. So no coin purchasing and no worrying about not getting an epic. As for gameplay, it is all the same; nothing changes- same commentary, graphics, visuals, and, in fact, added features like the player-to-player camera perspective.

So, is KONAMI really preparing a lawsuit? This claim has not been independently confirmed, and there is no verified announcement from KONAMI acknowledging this version or confirming an investigation or lawsuit.

The claim has sparked plenty of debate on X, with some users questioning whether KONAMI could pursue developers distributing an .apk file outside official app stores. Others argue that unofficial modifications have existed for years without necessarily leading to public lawsuits.

An .apk being distributed outside the Play Store or App Store does not automatically make it immune from legal action, either. The details would depend on the circumstances, including how the game was modified and distributed.

The modified version could be fun for a while, but the grind is part of the game

I can see why this version is exciting. If you are a fan of players who aren’t available in the official eFootball roster, or you simply want to experiment with licensed teams and player versions without worrying about coins, contracts, and player packs, this sounds like a lot of fun.

But I also think the novelty could wear off. Half the fun of eFootball, at least for me, is working towards a player, saving coins, and finally getting that card you’ve wanted for a long time. When every player is available immediately, and there is no real grind, what is left to work towards?

That said, I understand why people are interested. Having access to different versions of iconic players, unlicensed clubs, and cards that aren’t normally available is exciting in its own way. It is the sort of thing you might enjoy experimenting with for a while, even if it doesn’t replace the official game.

Whether KONAMI actually takes action remains to be seen. For now, this “All-Stars” build is an interesting unofficial project and remains active, but the claims of an investigation and potential lawsuit need more evidence before we can call them confirmed.
