世嘉因玩家强烈反对下架《Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition》并恢复原版游戏

If you’re a true blue RTS fan, then you’re probably very familiar with the uproar surrounding Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition. This single-player and multiplayer title (hence why we’re even covering it here), which was released last week, was a remaster of the 2011 RTS classic that heralded improved visuals and textures, modernized controls, over 50 new playable minor factions, and a 64-bit upgrade.

The game’s reception was an unmitigated disaster. Multiple fans pointed out what appeared to be low-effort and undisclosed generative AI tools used to “improve” the visuals, with garbled faces and textures evident on the game’s unit cards. Compounding the problem was the fact that the re-release was reportedly buggy and had poor performance, and the fact that the old game was pulled from sale.

As a result of the overwhelmingly negative flood of reception, Sega and Creative Assembly did a complete about-face. “We’ve seen your feedback, comments, and reviews. We agree that the current experience is not where it needs to be,” the announcement reads. “As a result we are working with platform holders to remove the game from sale and to reinstate the original game while we investigate the issues. Existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.”

The announcement reads as if this remaster is still poised to come back, as it also confirms that the companies are “working closely with our development partner to identify the causes of these problems, deliver improvements, and ensure Shogun 2 – Complete Edition meets the quality standards players expect.” Regardless, the old title is indeed back and fans can perhaps be allowed to enjoy their RTS-loving lives.
