《Weird Type Fun》v2.0（完全属性替换改版）2026 更新

NEW UPDATE!

It's uh, been a while! Life happened and I ended up halting work on WTF for a loooong time, but at long last I was able to bring WTF closer to a final form.

The new patch and a summary of the major changes can be found under the download section!

Unfortunately, due to the newly expanded pokedex, old saves will not work with 2.0 :(
Hopefully the new pokémon, balancing and events added make up for this somewhat!

OVERVIEW

Weird Type Fun is a simple rom hack with an even simpler concept: to have even series veterans be confused about type matchups. With 18 all new types and a completely reimagined pokédex to match, WTF makes the ever familiar Kanto a little bit less so.

While WTF sticks mostly to the core FireRed story and structure, some characters and lore has been changed around to keep things fresh. Event only areas (aka Navel Rock and Birth Island) have been made accessible through gameplay and a couple of new locations and small events have been added in. As of 2.0 there's more original events and a slightly extended post game with 7 Trial Captains and the Sevii League to defeat, as well as an ultimate trainer after you've bested the leagues of both regions.

FEATURES

• All types have been replaced with new alternatives. Type matchups do not mirror original.
• 575 pokémon, assembled from up to gen 10 (aka I added Pombon, Browt and Gecqua and gave them made up evolutions with a flimsy excuse :p). Also includes some beta pokémon and fakemon.
• Each pokémon has been redesigned to fit its new type (think Fool's Gold and AlteRed, except more nonsensical)
• Moves and items updated to match the new types
• Mostly faithful Gen III Kanto experience with some new twists and a bit more to do in the post game

You can get a direct download of a zip file containing an .ups patch, type chart, pokedex guide and a list of changes and known issues in the spiler tag down below. Alternatively, WTF is now also now available on Hackdex!

NOTE!! Due to the new pokedex expansion and reorder, old saves from before 2.0 unfortunately aren't guaranteed to work on this version of the hack :(
They may load depending on your emulator of choice, but events may get messed up and your pokédex and previously caught pokémon might get glitchy. I recommend a fresh save.

There are a couple of new surprises in the early game to hopefully make a new playthrough more interesting for anyone who decides to give WTF another whirl.

KNOWN ISSUES

This is my first rom hack, and was made entirely with binary tools. I also learned hacking on the go.

Even with 2.0 I was not able to fix all of my early blunders (and I added a couple of new ones to boot), so there will be some oddities here and there. Nothing game-breaking as far as testing has revealed, but here's the stuff that I know of and have not been able to fix:

I dunno!

The HoF bug would be nice to fix if I can. I think the hack is done content-wise, the poor thing won't be able to handle another pokédex expansion at the very least.

On a little personal note, I'm sorry to everyone who has contacted me since I last posted! I haven't had the heart to go through the backlog of all the messages. Still, I'm so grateful to everyone who reached out! I don't know if I will have the chops to do much in the way of replying to people, but many kind words have been sent my way and it warms my heart T.T
