PlayStation 6's RAM and storage alone will cost Sony over $680 USD per console according to KeplerL2 (an industry insider with a good track record). Of course this is just a claim rather than anything Sony has publicly stated, but if true the PlayStation 6 could carry a hefty price tag.
KeplerL2 said that the "RAM + NAND (storage)" would cost at least $680 USD just for these 2 components alone per console. The insider added that those same components cost far less back when Sony finalised the console's design and this also tracks with recent comments from Microsoft back in June of this year who said they expect already-surging memory and storage prices to double yet again by the start of Q3 2027.
Demand for these components has surged in recent years due to shortages driven by demand from AI data centres which has pushed the price of a PS5 up by $200 / £200 since launch.
PlayStation 6 was once reported to be aiming for a 2027 launch though no official announcements have been made.
What price do you expect the next generation of consoles to launch at? Are we looking at a minimum of $1000 USD for the PS6 or will Sony and others take a cut in order to keep RRP low?
