Sega celebrated the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog in style with the Club Chaos party event in New York City. It marked the return of anniversary party events that have been a mainstay of the series on and off since 2011.

Many of these events brought announcements that excited fans about the future of the series. The last event predating Club Chaos, the Sonic 25th Anniversary Party in San Diego, was no exception. It began the festivities by announcing the fan-favorite Sonic Mania, which was playable on the show floor. A teaser trailer for Sonic Forces was a big finale surprise at the very end of the show.

What to Look Forward to After Sonic's Club Chaos

Like the previous anniversary celebrations that came before it, Club Chaos was full of plenty of surprises for fans, but this does come with a sizable catch.

There were announcements at Club Chaos, but they were kept brief and mostly teased things that would come later down the line for the series. There were no teases or formal announcements for any new games. However, the event leading up to Club Chaos, the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds 2026 World Championships, made one thing very clear. Sonic's latest kart racing game isn't anywhere close to done yet.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Championships

Year Two adds new features like 1v1 competitive Rival Duel Mode, expanded gadget plates, and a dedicated in-game shop for skins and previous festival rewards.
Year Two will also add DLC characters into other modes like Grand Prix and Rival Duel Mode.
A new wave of free DLC characters and matching vehicles, starting with Bayonetta, McLaren Sonic, and Aigis from Persona 3.
All the season pass DLC for Year Two has been announced. The packs, in order, are: Godzilla, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Virtual Sanrio Puroland, Segaland, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the Persona "Reload Revival Royal" pack.

Club Chaos Party

After vague confirmations that a new Sonic game is in development have been circling in official interviews for two years, there were no formal reveals of said project at Club Chaos. Still, after ten years since the last anniversary party, many fans felt let down without a big finale announcement similar to Sonic Forces' reveal.

What's coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn't anything to sneeze at, though. Year Two starts as early as next month, which adds features that improve on many of the issues the game has had for the last year. Duel Mode seeks to take CrossWorlds' fun and chaotic setup and make it even more competitive.

Whatever's going on with Final Fantasy 7 speaks for itself. While there's no clear confirmation of what the in-progress "Midgar Pack" contains just yet, it speaks volumes that one of the rare times Cloud has stepped out of his collab comfort zone is to race with fellow Super Smash Bros. fighter Sonic. It's likely going to be one of the most anticipated packs out of the entire DLC lineup.

There are a lot of fun things lined up for the next while, with some immediate things coming next month, all alongside plenty of exciting things to look forward to in the next year. No matter what's next for the blue blur, there's something for everyone on the horizon until Sonic Team is ready to share what they're working on.
