Sega responds to Sonic Discord chaos after “pretty wild” launch
Sega has issued a response to the chaotic launch of the official Sonic Discord, stating that while things were “pretty wild” at the start, everything is completely under control.
As part of the ongoing 35th anniversary festivities, Sega launched its first-ever Sonic Discord server for the beloved Blue Blur. However, as we originally reported, things didn’t exactly get off to a smooth start.
However, Sega’s community relations director Aaron Webber has pushed back on reports of ongoing chaos within the Sonic Discord, saying disruptive users were swiftly banned and that things have been “fairly wholesome.”
Sega responds to Sonic Discord’s chaotic launch
“You might read a headline that says it’s on fire and everything is chaos, but as anyone in the server the last ten hours can tell you, that’s very much not the case,” Webber wrote.
While he acknowledged that the opening was “pretty wild,” Webber said more than 30,000 people had arrived wanting to talk, and credited moderators with keeping the server clean during the initial rush and afterward.
He also challenged the impression that things were on fire in the Sonic Discord server, especially given the number of viral screenshots circulating online.
“You may see cherry-picked screens of bad actors trying to cause havoc, but these were all swiftly removed and banned,” he explained. “One of the key ways the server is kept clean so quickly is through the automatic filters, which are very strict right now. (Probably too strict!).”
Hello! After years away, I return to Twitter (what's X?) today to talk about the new Sonic Discord. You might read a headline that says it’s on fire and everything is chaos, but as anyone in the server the last ten hours can tell you, that’s very much not the case. (Thread:)

However, it seems those same filters have also caught users who should not have been banned, something Webber said the team has already begun to address.
“As a result, we’ve noticed a number of users getting incorrectly banned. We’ve already started unbanning some of those affected and will be fine-tuning this in the days to come,” he added.
The server’s rules require members to keep content family-friendly, protect personal information, and treat others with respect. They also prohibit political campaigning, religious promotion, and AI-generated creative content, including a specific reference to Eggman dating simulators (it’s best not to ask).
Despite the disruption at launch, Webber described the launch as “fairly wholesome” and thanked fans for their support. As for the future of the Sonic Discord server, Sega has revealed that they’ll have several staff and special guests popping in from time to time. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll get to see the Blue Blur himself.
