世嘉（Sega）出售含“索尼克 DNA”的雕像，售价 21000 美元
Sega is selling a $21,000 Sonic figure containing his “DNA”
Sega is selling a Sonic figure that has “Sonic DNA” inside it to celebrate the Blue Blur’s 35th anniversary, but it will set you back over $20,000.
Back in June, Sega released a life-size Sonic that had the lightning-fast hedgehog’s DNA housed inside it. As we originally reported, the full-scale figure was created in collaboration with LOM BABY, the biotechnology and art team famous for creating a real-life sample of Resident Evil T-Virus and synthetic dragon meat.
The unique model (heavy emphasis on unique there) is currently housed at Sega’s Shibuya store in Tokyo, but now fans around the world can purchase their very own “Sonic DNA” figure, but it comes with an eye-watering price tag.
Sonic DNA figure will set you back over $20k
According to the translated store page, Sonic the Hedgehog’s DNA figure costs ¥3,300,000 (around $20,845) plus additional shipping fees. It’s a pretty pricey collectible, putting it waaaay above the highly limited edition porcelain figure that is currently being sold for $7,000 and has only 50 available.
The reason behind the hefty price tag is the science that went into creating Sega’s iconic hedgehog’s DNA. Just like his life-size brother, the creators from LOM BABY have cooked up Sonic’s genetic code by carefully analyzing his appearance, personality, signature abilities, and inability to swim.
Sega Sonic’s synthesized DNA has then been sealed inside a glowing green Chaos Emerald that sits within his chest, creating a figure that “contains the character’s DNA.” It’s certainly one of the most unique collectibles I’ve written about, and sure to raise plenty of questions when you have guests around.
Each figure comes with its own unique serial number, stands 9.8 inches tall, and comes with a base measuring 11.8 inches wide, 8.4 inches deep, and 0.6 inches thick. But what is Sonic DNA made from?
SegaInterestingly, the artificial DNA is made from nucleic acid, the same type of molecule that stores genetic information in living organisms. As for all the lovely stuff that surrounds said DNA, his creators have used resin to form his body, Chaos Emerald, and translucent viewing lens.
Yes, that’s right, you’ll be able to stare into Sonic’s chest to see the glowing green Chaos Emerald that houses his DNA. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?
