This just came across my algorithm, I didn't see any discussion about it here yet.

Here's both a short video, and then after it a longer video explaining it:

It's called PokeDaisy, an Android emulator for Pokémon games and ROM hacks. It has RetroAchievements support. Both of the videos appear to be using the AYN Thor dual screen Android device but I don't think pokedaisy is limited to that device.

To me it looks like it's bringing together a few things people have already experimented with separately in the past with emulation.

When the old Sega Master System game Phantasy Star was released on Nintendo Switch a few years ago, I believe it was mostly emulation, with new enhancements like the AUTOMAP feature implemented through the custom emulator.

There are some PC emulators for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo that attempt to enable widescreen support. When I tried them out a few years ago, they weren't really perfect across all games, and it seemed some games would need to be patched to get them functioning in widescreen better or at all. It seems like building an emulator around specific games would make these kinds of enhancements easier to pull off.

PokeDaisy seems to be doing similar things and more, specifically for Pokémon games.

Would you classify what PokeDaisy is doing as an emulator? Could it be thought of as a specialized emulator with a companion interface, or possibly something else?

And could this sort of approach be applied to other games, annd other consoles, or does it depend heavily on the specific games being targeted?
