After years of anticipation, Cloud Imperium Games is taking another step toward the launch of Squadron 42, as its ambitious single-player sci-fi adventure is now available to wishlist on Steam. Scheduled to launch in Q2 2027, the game brings together Hollywood talent, cinematic storytelling, and large-scale space combat in a standalone adventure set in the Star Citizen universe.
Set in the year 2945, Squadron 42 puts players in the role of a rookie recruit in the United Empire of Earth’s Navy. With humanity facing threats from hostile alien forces and outlaws, players will find themselves caught in a galactic conflict where every mission could have serious consequences.
But this adventure goes beyond piloting a spacecraft and taking down enemy fighters. Players will live aboard a massive capital ship, build relationships with fellow crew members, undertake dangerous ground operations, and make critical decisions throughout their journey. From intense space dogfights to stealth missions and character-driven encounters, Squadron 42 aims to deliver a cinematic experience that keeps players directly involved in the action.
The game’s star power is another major selling point. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, and Ben Mendelsohn, among other recognizable names. Using performance capture, Cloud Imperium Games is bringing these actors into the experience through performances that extend beyond traditional cutscenes.
The adventure is powered by the studio’s proprietary StarEngine technology, which aims to deliver detailed environments, realistic characters, and seamless transitions between cinematic sequences and gameplay.
With Steam wishlisting now open and a Q2 2027 launch planned, Squadron 42 is entering another important stage ahead of release. Now, sci-fi fans can finally keep this space epic on their radar.
