EA Sports has released update 3 for NHL 27 today, bringing some gameplay adjustments, improvements across several modes and a bunch of bug fixes. Quite a few of the changes address issues players have been reporting through the NHL Feedback Portal.
Goalies received some attention, especially when it comes to those stride-deke goals that players have been taking advantage of. They should be tougher to score now, and EA also fixed some issues with puck speed on redirected saves and stick redirects. Goalies should have a harder time making saves when they’re fully stretched out. Line changes have been cleaned up as well with fixes for mixed lines showing up unexpectedly, the wrong players getting on the ice and requested lines not coming out when they should.
There are some other gameplay tweaks as well, including Superstar AI taking fewer slap shots in situations where they don’t make much sense. The Pressure System has also been adjusted so the meter drops faster when the puck gets cleared out of the offensive zone and defenders won’t be hit quite as hard by fatigue when they’re stuck under pressure. Players on the penalty kill now recover energy at the same rate as they would at even strength.
The update takes care of quite a few presentation problems, from commentary mistakes and awkward camera angles to players clipping through each other during celebrations. The New York Rangers’ goal song has been changed to remove the “Let’s Go Rangers” chant and the Florida Panthers’ goal song now kicks in sooner after the horn. The team cleaned up some player animations, equipment issues and other little things that could look out of place during games.
Be A Pro received fixes for salary perks, captaincy decisions and leadership conversations, and Franchise Mode addresses issues with draft player images, contract offers, no-trade clauses and a CPU-versus-CPU crash. Connected Franchise has a much bigger list of fixes covering league creation, trades, free agency, roster management, invitations and online connectivity. There’s also a new player salary editor in the Roster Override screen, along with more roster information and a confirmation prompt when leaving the screen.
Visual updates include new center-ice designs for the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs, along with several AHL and Canadian Hockey League teams. A bunch of uniforms have also been added or updated across the AHL, ECHL, Canadian Hockey League, Liiga and DEL. Check out the full patch notes below.

GAMEPLAY IMPROVEMENTS
Goalie Behavior
We’ve heard your feedback on goalie behavior, including concerns around the effectiveness of stride-deke goals and the outcomes of certain goalie saves. Update 3 includes several adjustments and fixes to address these situations.
- Stride-deke goals: We’ve improved goalie logic to reduce the success rate of the stride-deke goal that the community identified.
- Redirect saves: Fixed an issue where the puck could lose too much velocity or fail to travel as intended, resulting in unrealistic rebounds.
- Stick redirects: Fixed an issue where stick redirects did not launch the puck with the intended outgoing velocity.
- Save Accuracy Tuning: Goalies are now less accurate when forced to make high-reach or fully extended saves, placing a higher premium on defensemen limiting high-danger angles and second-chance rebounds.
We’ll continue to listen to your feedback and evaluate opportunities to improve goalie consistency further.
Line Changes
We’ve addressed several issues that could prevent the requested line from taking the ice or cause unintended players to enter the game.
Update 3 includes the following improvements:
- More reliable line changes: Fixed several cases where mixed lines could be sent onto the ice unexpectedly.
- Improved line cycling: Fixed an issue where cycling through lines would not always send out the requested line.
- More conservative fatigue logic: Adjusted the logic when fatigued players consider it safe to change lines.
- HUT automatic line changes: Fixed an issue where incorrect players could enter the ice following automatic line changes.
Our goal is to make sure line changes behave consistently with your intended lineup. We’ll continue monitoring feedback in this area as players get more time with the update.
AI Improvements
Shot Selection Adjustments: Reduced the frequency with which Superstar AI players opted for slap shots in lower-percentage situations, promoting more realistic and varied offensive playmaking.
Pressure System
Faster Zone Decay: The Pressure Meter now decays more quickly when the puck is cleared out of the offensive zone, giving defending teams a better reward for successful zone exits.
Tuned Fatigue Impact: Reduced the fatigue penalty multiplier while under pressure, allowing defending players to maintain better responsiveness and competitiveness during extended zone time.
Stamina & Energy
Penalty Kill Recovery Realignment: Adjusted energy recovery rates for Penalty Kill units to match even-strength recovery rates, standardizing endurance across all game situations.
