[WIP] Enemies as Companions: Reforged | Companion Customization, Team Building & Combat Commands
Hello, Terrarians!
I'm currently developing Enemies as Companions: Reforged (EaC), a tModLoader mod that allows you to turn Terraria's enemies into companions, customize their abilities, and command them in battle!
Rather than simply adding more minions, my goal is to create a system where each companion has its own strengths, weaknesses, and potential builds, making team composition and tactical decisions an important part of gameplay.
I'd like to share some of the systems I've been working on, along with a short gameplay example!
1. Companion Customization (Contract Tuning)
Each companion has its own stats, Factor Aptitudes, and customizable Factor slots.
Factors are special abilities that provide various effects, such as additional attacks, defensive bonuses, healing, or other unique mechanics.
Companions can also possess Innate Factors, which are abilities naturally associated with their original enemy types.
You can upgrade their HP, ATK, and DEF, develop their Factors, and unlock additional Factor slots as you progress.
The idea is to let players experiment with different builds, even when using the same type of enemy.
2. Team Registration
You can organize multiple companions into a team, with each companion consuming a certain amount of Command Cost.
Different companions have different stats, abilities, and AI behaviors, so choosing the right combination is important.
For example, you might combine a durable frontline companion with a ranged attacker and a support-focused companion.
3. Combat Command
One of the major features of EaC is the Combat Command system.
You can create three different command presets, assigning each companion one of three combat roles:
- Attack: Focuses on offensive combat.
- Defense: Reduces incoming damage and helps draw enemy attention.
- Apoyar (Support): Prioritizes support and healing over attacking.
You can switch between these presets during combat, allowing you to adapt your team's behavior to the situation.
For example, you could start a boss fight with an offensive setup, switch to a defensive setup when your companions are taking heavy damage, and then use a support setup to help your team recover.
I want battles to feel like commanding a small party rather than simply summoning minions and leaving them to fight on their own.
4. Gameplay Example: Salamander Companion
Here's a short clip showing a Salamander companion in combat from the current development build!
Salamander is one of the many Terraria enemies that can become companions in EaC.
This example shows how an existing enemy can take on a new role as an ally, participating in combat while retaining characteristics inspired by its original behavior.
The companion AI, visual effects, and balance are still being developed, so what you see here may change before release.
Development Status
EaC is still a work in progress.
The first public version is planned to focus primarily on Pre-Hardmode content, with additional companions, Factors, and progression systems coming in future updates.
My goal is to give players plenty of freedom to experiment with different enemies and builds, and to discover unexpected combinations that work well together.
I'd be interested to hear what you think about the customization system, UI design, and combat commands.
Thanks for taking a look at my project!
