据称索尼在盗版争议中限制 PS5 固件 14.00 无法登入 PSN

PS5 owners holding onto firmware 14.00 are facing a difficult choice. Players report that Sony now requires an update to version 14.10 before they can sign in to PlayStation Network, leaving those waiting for future jailbreak support without access to PSN features on their consoles.

The restriction arrives amid growing attention around PS5 piracy and Sony’s reported action against an unauthorized game storefront. Especially for homebrew enthusiasts, keeping older firmware now comes with a more immediate cost.

In brief:

• PS5 users on firmware 14.00 reportedly need to install version 14.10 to access PSN.
• Staying on older software means giving up PSN-dependent features while waiting for potential exploits.
• The requirement follows reports of an Overdrive piracy-store takedown, although Sony has not publicly connected the two developments.

PS5 Firmware 14.10 Becomes Necessary for PSN Access

A post on the PS5homebrew subreddit shows an update prompt appearing when a console running firmware 14.00 attempts to access network features.

Now, for affected players, that puts online multiplayer and PlayStation Store access behind the update. Digital games that need online license verification may also become inaccessible, although the restriction does not mean every previously purchased game automatically stops working.

Version 14.10 includes security fixes alongside performance and stability improvements. The reported change concerns when players must install it to keep using Sony’s online services.

PS5 Jailbreak Gets Out of Hand

Updating becomes a bigger decision when players are keeping a console on older software in the hope that a compatible exploit eventually arrives. Moving to newer firmware can close vulnerabilities that homebrew developers might otherwise use.

However, being on firmware 14.00 does not automatically mean a PS5 is already jailbroken. Reporting on the Relapse release lists support for versions 7.00 through 13.60, with 14.00 outside that supported range. Some affected owners are therefore waiting for future developments rather than protecting an existing Relapse setup.

Game compatibility adds another complication. Sony’s own support documentation warns that some applications and content require updated system software. However, the specific claim that Dune: Awakening requires firmware 14.10 could not be verified from the sources reviewed.

Sony’s Reported Piracy Crackdown Adds Context

As we previously reported, Overdrive offered unauthorized downloads of more than 1,600 PS4 and PS5 games. Its original repository disappeared following claims that Sony had sent a cease-and-desist notice, while copies reportedly appeared within hours. Sony’s involvement remains publicly unconfirmed.

And obviously that spread illustrates the enforcement problem Sony faces, as removing one storefront can leave replacements circulating elsewhere. Requiring newer firmware also increases the practical cost of staying on older software.

Still, claims that piracy has “shaken Sony to its core” go beyond the available evidence. Sony has not publicly identified this PSN requirement as a response to Overdrive, and mandatory updates for network access are an established practice. The supported takeaway is that the latest restriction puts additional pressure on players holding out for jailbreaks, against the backdrop of a growing piracy controversy.
