North American esports organisation Evil Geniuses (EG) will cease competitive and day-to-day operations on November 2, Inven Global reported. EG announced the decision on October 20.

It came in a statement on the organisation's website and in a LinkedIn post from chief executive Chris DeAppolonio.

Players on every roster can talk to other organisations now. VALORANT is the exception. Its players and coaches cannot sign with new teams until the 2026 season ends on November 2, the same day EG closes.

Why EG Says It Is Closing

EG pointed to limited sponsorship and investment across the industry, along with the rising cost of competing at the top level. It said the business could not be run responsibly in the current environment.

That was true despite sustained investment and the work of its staff.

DeAppolonio said the past few years were spent rebuilding. By his account, EG stabilised its operations, restored public sentiment and grew its engagement and output. It also moved into new titles and built a creator roster.

Strafe (Strafe Esports) said the organisation had restructured in recent years before reaching its conclusion.

What Happens to Players and Staff

EG said it will wind down in an orderly way. It will work with every player, coach and staff member affected. DeAppolonio also asked organisations that are hiring to contact EG's outgoing people.

He said he would personally vouch for every player, creator and staff member. He shared his direct email address for anyone with an opening or a reference request.

Inven Global noted that the announcement did not say whether any part of the business will continue after November 2. It also did not address the EG brand or the creator roster.

The VALORANT Context

Strafe pointed out that Riot Games is cutting the number of partnered organisations in each international VALORANT league from ten to eight, starting in 2027.

EG does not appear in Strafe's roundup of VCT 2027 partner teams, which combines official confirmations with media reports. EG's statement does not link its closure to that selection process.

EG won VALORANT Champions 2023 in Los Angeles, beating Paper Rex 3-1 in the grand final. It was the organisation's first world title in the game.

The winning roster was Max "Demon1" Mazanov, Ethan "Ethan" Arnold, Kelden "Boostio" Pupello, Corbin "C0M" Lee and Alexander "jawgemo" Mor.

A Long Run Across Several Games

Founded in 1999, EG competed in VALORANT, League of Legends, Counter-Strike and Dota 2. It won Dota 2's The International in 2015. Its fighting game squad once included SonicFox and dekillsage. EG has since shed that roster.

For players, the practical result is a hard date. Everyone on the VALORANT team must wait until November 2 before negotiating with anyone else.
