Over a dozen regional Top Sellers charts on Steam now include Planet Zoo 2. The achievement serves as an encouraging sign of early commercial momentum for the upcoming animal life sim, which is scheduled to launch globally on Steam on October 13.
Steam's Top Sellers chart is not a straightforward ranking of copies sold. Valve orders it by revenue from the trailing 24 hours, with extra weight given to more recent spending, while base-game purchases, DLC, and in-game transactions all count toward final placement. That is why free-to-play games frequently crowd the highest positions in Steam's sales rankings even though they cost nothing to download. Case in point: Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, AION 2, and several other F2P titles currently occupy leading spots across most major regional charts, including the U.S. one.
Planet Zoo 2 Is Already Near the Top of Steam in Several Countries
The Upcoming Animal Life Sim Is Currently the Biggest in the Netherlands

As of October 11, Planet Zoo 2 ranks first on Steam's Top Sellers chart in the Netherlands while also holding several top 10 positions in other major markets: No. 3 in the Czech Republic, No. 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 7 in both Germany and Switzerland, and No. 9 in Australia. Moreover, the upcoming wildlife sandbox game also sits inside the U.S. top 20 at No. 18. Although these are live revenue rankings that can change quickly, the sheer breadth of Planet Zoo 2's placements makes the showing more notable than a strong performance in an isolated market, no matter how big.

Looking at its best regional ranking, the No. 1 spot in the Netherlands is not a one-day spike but reflective of longer momentum. According to historical sales data reviewed by GameRant, Planet Zoo 2 ranked No. 16 in the Netherlands for September 15-22, climbed to No. 13 for September 22-29, and then reached No. 11 on September 29. It has been at the top of the Dutch chart since October 7. As fickle as Steam sales trends can be, this particular one still appears to indicate that Planet Zoo 2 is approaching its release date from a position of strength.
A Brief Intro to Planet Zoo 2
Planet Zoo 2 itself is a construction and management sim that retains the core gameplay loop of Frontier Developments' 2019 original. Players design habitats, acquire and care for animals, meet species-specific welfare requirements, manage staff and finances, and keep park guests satisfied enough to support continued expansion and improvement. The structured part of the game comes in the form of a Career mode, whose formula is further refined in Franchise mode that lets players build a network of zoos and wildlife reserves while trading animals with others. The popular Sandbox mode makes a return as well, removing most gameplay restrictions in favor of free-form building.
Beyond Steam, Planet Zoo 2 will also launch on the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store on day one. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are arriving on October 13 as well, though neither appears to be generating the same level of presale momentum as the Steam release. That is not particularly surprising when looking at the biggest picture, as construction and management sims have traditionally been more deeply rooted on PC while attracting smaller followings on consoles.
