Embark Studios has just released Frozen Trail, ARC Raiders' biggest update to date. The patch is headlined by a new northern map, expanded player housing, weapon progression beyond the previous cap and a full new season of challenges. Alongside the patch, the game is running a Free Play Weekend starting today through Monday, October 12, with 50% discounts on the base game and Deluxe editions across Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.

Frozen Trail's main attraction is Pendola Pass, a harsh, remote mountain region on the northern edge of the Rust Belt. Embark described it as the game's most ambitious map so far, built with significantly increased verticality, dense interior spaces and complex terrain that encourages new routes and ambush points. Key points of interest include a massive fallen Emperor unit that Raiders can explore, as well as multiple new locations designed to support both cautious infiltration and high-intensity firefights. The map also introduces a new minor map condition called Redirection, exclusive to Pendola Pass, which gives squads a chance to draw Harvester Payloads away from the Collector and toward their own position, changing how endgame extractions play out.

Frozen Trail also expands ARC Raiders' roster with three new ground enemies and a new airborne threat:

  • Bully – a relentless, aggressive ARC unit built to pressure Raiders in close quarters.
  • Skulker – a more tactical foe that emphasizes positioning and flanking.
  • Hydra – a ferocious, high-damage enemy intended to punish exposed squads.
  • Frigate – a new airborne ARC platform that alters patrol patterns and creates fresh aerial hazards over Pendola Pass.

These additions are designed to force players to rethink loadouts and movement, especially in the tighter, more vertical spaces of this new map. Outside of combat, Frozen Trail introduces Outposts, personal spaces that Raiders can establish and expand outside Speranza. Players can build and upgrade workbenches, craft items and decorate their Outpost, turning it into a customizable hub between raids.

On the progression side, the update adds a Research Station that unlocks Weapon Amplification, allowing players to push weapons beyond the previous level cap with special gameplay mechanics and new visual variants. A parallel Weapon Stencils system lets Raiders apply distinct aesthetic patterns to their guns, while new gameplay items such as the Grappling Hook and a first-person Camera gadget expand both mobility and photo opportunities.

The quest system has also been overhauled with more robust objectives and optional bonus goals that award extra XP, while the Raider skill tree receives new nodes and refinements to existing skills so players can specialize around specific playstyles.

Frozen Trail kicks off Trials Season 6, adding a fresh set of challenges and milestones. The accompanying Frozen Trail Reward Pass features 60 levels of rewards split between a Free Track and a Premium Track. The Premium Pass can be unlocked for 1,150 Raider Tokens or via the Frozen Trail Collector Set bundle, and adds 50 extra rewards, including exclusive cosmetics and an additional 1,150 Tokens. Completing both tracks yields a total of 1,350 Raider Tokens.

The patch lands less than a week before the PvE toggle beta test, which is set to run between October 13 and 20. During this time, players can opt into matches with no PvP and focus entirely on co-op against ARC threats. This will be a limited-time test, and there's no guarantee it will ever become a permanent mode, though the studio appears interested in the possibility, while the community seems divided on the matter.

In other ARC Raiders news, the post-apocalyptic franchise and Embark's other IP (the competitive first-person shooter The Finals) will be adapted to TV and/or film by Chernin Entertainment, the production company behind hits like Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Greatest Showman, Ford v Ferrari, See, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Backrooms.

Chernin is also producing the Mega Man live-action film adaptation with CAPCOM, but there's been no news on that project for years, so it could be stuck in development hell.
