Cyberpunk 2077 is getting another substantial free update, with CD Projekt Red introducing dual-wielding, cross-platform mod support, new quests and additional customization options. Called the Edgerunners 2 Update, Patch 2.5 arrives on October 22, alongside the recent Netflix premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds New Quests, Dual-Wielding and Console Mod Support
According to the official Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 patch notes, the Edgerunners crossover introduces a new side quest called Clampdown, which takes place before the events of the second anime series.
Players can unlock the quest after completing The Heist and two gigs for Wakako, then waiting for her to make contact. Completing Clampdown also rewards players with a five-piece equipment set inspired by King, one of the characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. There’s also a new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, featuring music from the Edgerunners series.
However, the biggest gameplay addition is arguably dual-wielding Pistols and Revolvers, introduced through the new Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree. Four supporting perks accompany it, opening up another combat-focused character build for players to experiment with.
Cyberware customization has also received a significant overhaul. Players can visit one of five new Glamdocs throughout Night City to change the appearance and colors of their Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and Projectile Launch System. Each location features its own shop, introductory sequence and selection of cosmetic upgrades.
Additional customization options include new hairstyles previously exclusive to NPCs, several clothing collections, four Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech vehicle skins available through Twitch Drops and expanded Photo Mode features.
Perhaps the most significant addition for console players is cross-platform mod support through mod.io. This allows players on PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 to browse and install a curated selection of community-created mods directly from the game’s menus. However, players using modded saves on consoles will be unable to earn achievements or trophies.
Two additional quests expand Night City’s activities. Welcome to Paradise takes players on a guided tour narrated by Richard Night, unlocking after The Heist and reaching Street Cred level 15. Meanwhile, an extension of Fool on the Hill introduces 12 new Minor Arcana Tarot Cards, with a special reward available for collecting them all.
Other improvements include an FOV slider on consoles, better save-game organization, stash filters and performance optimizations. PC players also benefit from DLSS 4.5 support, while CD Projekt Red has introduced additional graphics improvements for PS5 Pro, Mac and compatible displays.
The update also fixes several bugs, including a Nintendo Switch 2 save error, ineffective HDR settings on PS5 and a progression blocker involving Delamain during Things Done Changed.
Cyberpunk 2077 Players Welcome New Features, but Mod Compatibility Raises Concerns
The announcement has been met with considerable enthusiasm among Cyberpunk 2077 players, particularly given that the game is approaching its sixth anniversary and continues to receive substantial updates.
In a Reddit discussion about Patch 2.5, one player said the announcement had convinced them to start their ninth playthrough, while others celebrated the addition of features they had wanted for years. Console players have been particularly positive about the new FOV slider and mod support, both of which bring functionality previously associated primarily with the PC version.
CD Projekt Red recently introduced similar cross-platform mod support through mod.io in The Witcher 3 Remastered, although the transition hasn’t been without problems. The September update broke compatibility with numerous existing mods, particularly those using scripts, XML files and older text formats, forcing creators to update their work. Console players also face restrictions on which mods can be installed, while achievements are disabled on modded saves and cross-platform progression can encounter problems if the same mods aren’t available on both systems.
However, it’s worth noting that The Witcher 3’s compatibility problems were partly caused by changes specific to its remaster, rather than mod.io itself, so the same issues aren’t necessarily expected in Cyberpunk 2077.
Game updates breaking mods isn’t a new issue, but in the case of Cyberpunk 2077 official cross-platform mod support should make selected community creations more accessible, while players using existing PC modding tools may still need to wait for compatibility updates after Patch 2.5 launches.
The update also arrives just two days after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on October 20. Produced by CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, the new 10-episode series introduces a different cast and a standalone story set in Night City.
The update launches on PC, Mac (Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version receiving it in the following days. Alongside the new anime-inspired content, players can expect technical improvements, quality-of-life changes and several long-requested features.
