From the moment 4-year-old Cameron first stepped out into Glimmer in Spyro 2, he knew video games were going to play a central role in the rest of his life. Though he never planned to make it the focal point of his career, Cameron spent the vast majority of his spare time growing up playing games, and following graduation from the University of Reading, he thought he'd try his hand at writing a few reviews. Six years later, Cameron has reviewed countless games, written thousands of news and feature pieces, and interviewed a wide range of developers for GameRant.

EA has officially announced the return of Fight Night, its long-dormant boxing series. This announcement of a new Fight Night game comes more than 15 years after the launch of the series' last entry.
Making its debut in 2004 with the appropriately named Fight Night 2004, EA's boxing series broke new ground for the genre, delivering realism and a distinct, intuitive analog stick-based control scheme dubbed 'Total Punch Control.' The first Fight Night entry received very favorable reviews across the board, and that positive reception carried through to the game's four sequels, all of which earned higher than an 80 on Metacritic.
EA Announces the Return of Fight Night
On October 20, 2026, a brand-new, official EA Sports Fight Night account appeared on Twitter. In its debut post, the EA Sports Fight Night account addressed "everyone who stayed in our corner," and announced that "Fight Night is coming back." This announcement comes 15 years and 7 months after the release of Fight Night's last entry, Fight Night Champion.

There's currently no official word on when EA plans to release this new Fight Night game, or when fans will be able to see footage for themselves. There's also been no word on what this new Fight Night is bringing to the table in terms of new modes or gameplay mechanics. Additionally, some fans are a little skeptical over the upcoming game's potential use of microtransactions, especially given that Fight Night Champion released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 before microtransactions became a core part of the EA Sports experience.
For over a decade now, fans have pondered why EA stopped making Fight Night games. The series' last entry performed just as well critically as its predecessors, with its Xbox 360 version earning an 86 on Metacritic. That said, it's unknown how Fight Night Champion performed commercially. One popular fan theory is that it cost EA less to use the licenses for UFC fighters, and that's why Fight Night stopped in 2011 and EA Sports UFC debuted in 2014. Of course, that's just a theory and has never been confirmed or denied by official sources.
For 12 years, the gaming industry was left without an officially licensed boxing game. In 2023, publisher Deep Silver and developer Steel City Interactive seized this gap in the market, releasing Undisputed into early access, and then delivering the full game a little over a year later. Undisputed offered 70 licensed fighters in its base game, and a total of five post-launch DLCs greatly expanded that roster. Undisputed earned a 'Fair' rating on OpenCritic, with a Top Critic Average of 73 and a recommendation score of 36%. The general sentiment among critics was that while Undisputed offered solid fighting mechanics and a good foundation for future entries, it didn't quite live up to the high bar set by EA's Fight Night series.
