Hello Games has confirmed it has ported the No Man’s Sky game to iOS smartphones and tablets. More and more developers are porting notable PC games to smartphones, and HG is now jumping on the mobile bandwagon with No Man’s Sky. HG has overcome numerous technical challenges to place No Man’s Sky in players’ hands.

1. The No Man’s Sky 2016 Launch

No Man’s Sky is a space exploration action-adventure game originally released in 2016. It is a game in which players can explore a universe and engage in space dogfights and trading. Players can also gather resources and build multi-planet colonies and underwater bases in No Man’s Sky.

No Man’s Sky did not have a great launch, with players turned off by its missing features and limited variety. However, a slew of free major updates turned No Man’s Sky into a much more polished space sandbox game. No Man’s Sky overcame its initial launch backlash to become a big hit on the PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation gaming platforms.

2. The No Man’s Sky Game Announcement

Now Hello Games has added a No Man’s Sky iOS Deep Dive video that confirms HG will release its space exploration game on Apple mobile devices. The HG studio founder Sean Murray speaks about the No Man’s Sky mobile port in that video. He reveals that the No Man’s Sky mobile port took nearly three years to complete and that it is now available for pre-order on Apple mobiles.

Murray concedes he was initially sceptical that No Man’s Sky could be effectively ported to mobile devices. The game’s procedural generation design worked in its favor because it does not need to store huge pre-baked asset files. HG has squeezed the gargantuan No Man’s Sky universe into a relatively small app download of less than five gigabytes.

No Man’s Sky for iOS is not a scaled-down version. It includes the full universe to explore, with 40 major No Man’s Sky updates from the last decade. Players can freely play the beginning of the No Man’s Sky mobile port for free, with a one-time purchase unlocking the full game.

3. No Man’s Sky Mobile Restrictions

Yet, Hello Games has still had to make some compromises for the No Man’s Sky mobile port. The mobile port does not support multiplayer at launch. Planetary settlements are also restricted to more advanced iPhone 15 and Pro and later mobile devices. Players can still play the base game on older devices like iPhone 11 without establishing planetary settlements.
