微软Xbox裁员将持续至一月

Per Fortune.com’s latest Xbox reporting, the publication states that the previously enacted layoffs at Microsoft’s Xbox will continue through January—with more cuts beginning this month, running into November, and after the holidays into January.

The hard-nosed approach to costs is also evident inside Xbox. So far, Sharma has cut 1,868 people as part of plans to reduce headcount by 3,200 during the next year, and she’s slashed several management layers. She’s planning the next rounds of layoffs for this month, November, and January, people familiar with the plans said, although layoff plans can change. Among the laid-off have been devoted staff members who had worked at Xbox for decades, which could mean a loss of valuable institutional knowledge.

Layoffs are impacting 3,200 heads over the course of the next year since the company initially laid off an estimated 1,600 heads since July followed by additional purges in September. This has left Xbox staff feeling (understandably) “demoralised” by the waves of layoffs despite some “appreciating the transparency”. Hiccups have also occurred during this process, with at least one employee being let go before later being given a chance to stay at Xbox.

As the division continues whittling down staff as part of its great reset, Xbox Head Asha Sharma “acknowledges the decisions made…, but values people and doesn’t intend to be transactional”. Considering the layoffs have included swathes of Xbox-lifers carrying institutional knowledge about the division and its products, one must wonder how the die are being cast and whether it’ll be ultimately worth it for the struggling gaming division as the next Xbox is projected to cost between 1,200 to 1,800 USD.
