Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing Infinity Ward’s military shooter series back with a new campaign, multiplayer map, and the return of DMZ. This year’s installment also marks Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo hardware after more than a decade.

Players who digitally pre-order either edition can begin the campaign early, with DMZ Early Access following shortly before the full release. Here’s everything you need to know about Modern Warfare 4’s release times, early access dates, Game Pass availability, and available editions.

Activision has confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 launches Friday, October 23, 2026, with the full game expected to become available at midnight local time. This means players in different regions should be able to access the game as October 23 begins in their respective time zones.

These times reflect the reported regional midnight launch rather than a universal unlock schedule confirmed by Activision. PC storefronts may follow different arrangements, so players should check their platform’s countdown closer to release.

There are also two important early access dates for players who pre-order digitally:

• October 16: Campaign Early Access began.
• October 20: DMZ Early Access begins.
• October 23: Full game launches, including multiplayer.

The campaign follows a new conflict on the Korean Peninsula, with players controlling South Korean soldier Private Park as North Korea launches an invasion. Captain Price also returns in a separate storyline involving covert operations beyond the front lines.

Modern Warfare 4 Editions, Pre-Order Bonuses and Game Pass Availability

Modern Warfare 4 is available in two main editions: Standard Edition and Vault Edition. Both include the full game, Campaign Early Access, and DMZ Early Access when pre-ordered digitally.

The Standard Edition also includes several pre-order bonuses, such as the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, Gilded Pearl Camo Pack, and Inner Circuit Weapon Blueprint.

The more expensive Vault Edition includes everything in the Standard Edition alongside additional cosmetic and progression rewards:

• Hostile Alliance Operator Pack: Four Operator Skins featuring Price, Ghost, Valeria and Blix.
• Special Forces Operator Pack: Four additional Operator Skins representing military units from the UK, Germany, France and South Korea.
• Signature Weapon Collection: Five Signature Weapons.
• BlackCell: One season of BlackCell, including the Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skips and 1,100 Call of Duty Points.
• DMZ Deployment Bonus: Additional content for the extraction mode.

Activision is also offering eligible returning Call of Duty players a 10% pre-order discount on the Vault Edition. The offer applies to qualifying players who own and have played an eligible Call of Duty title released in 2019 or later on the same platform account.

One significant difference from recent Call of Duty releases concerns Xbox Game Pass. Activision has confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 will not be available through Game Pass at launch, despite Microsoft’s ownership of the franchise. Instead, players must purchase the game separately, with Game Pass availability planned for the 2027 holiday period.

The decision was confirmed in an official Activision announcement on October 15. Existing Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will retain access to several older Call of Duty titles, including Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III.

Modern Warfare 4’s October 23 release also introduces 12 new 6v6 multiplayer maps at launch, alongside larger battlefields supporting infantry and vehicle combat. Meanwhile, DMZ returns as an extraction-focused mode built around recovering equipment, completing objectives and escaping hostile environments.

With Campaign Early Access already underway and DMZ opening October 20, players who pre-order digitally can experience two major parts of Modern Warfare 4 before its worldwide launch. Everyone else can join the action when the full game arrives on October 23.
