Independent Korean developer BECUZUS has released a new VANRAN trailer at the ID@XBOX x IGN Showcase, confirming the release window for their upcoming game: early 2027. This is a bit later than the December 2026 window that was mentioned when the game was announced in January 2026; still, it should only be a brief wait.

VANRAN is a third-person dark fantasy action RPG that focuses on fluid and, to be honest, rather impressive combat. One of its main hooks is the Chain system, which connects traversal and combat rather than treating them as separate things. BECUZUS says the action rewards maintaining momentum through parries, guard breaks, and fluid chain shifts, encouraging players to keep up the pressure. An active parry mechanic that lets players catch and return the momentum of an opponent’s strike while moving in and out of combat.

The encounters also feature gigantic beings called the Govu, which players will have to scale during multi-stage battles that sound similar to those seen in Shadow of the Colossus or Dragon’s Dogma. These fights introduce a vertical component to the action, with the developer putting it succinctly on Steam: in VANRAN, to kill a God, you must first learn to climb one. Naturally, how well these encounters hold up will depend on their execution, but on paper, they’re one of the game's more distinctive features.

As for the story, players take on the role of Caleb, a warrior who spent a century defending the Northern Frontier before rebelling against the royalty he once served. His former comrades subsequently became his executioners, forcing him to plunge into the abyss to escape. Now a fallen human slave in the Demon Realm, he wields a sealed blade and launches another rebellion, with salvation and vengeance presented as competing motivations.

According to the studio's original announcement, the narrative draws inspiration from Western classics like Orpheus and Eurydice and Dante's Divine Comedy. BECUZUS also promises to integrate storytelling into exploration and combat, with player actions altering enemy states and triggering further developments. The early portions are intended to introduce the setting gradually before opening into a more non-linear structure, where exploration reveals hidden stories and alternate routes. Choices are supposed to have consequences, too: decisions made throughout the rebellion will echo across the Demon Realm and influence the ending, although the developer has yet to explain how extensive that branching will be.

BECUZUS, led by director Sungjae Lee, has also talked up enemies that coordinate group tactics and combo attacks in real time. Meanwhile, support features for newcomers and scalable difficulty options are intended to make the action approachable without removing the challenge for more experienced players. Those are ambitious promises for an independent project, but it won't be long now before we can judge for ourselves whether this is going to be the next indie gem.

One thing is for sure: the system requirements won’t be an obstacle, given that they're pretty low.
