Housemarque’s PlayStation 5 roguelike Saros has received its first major free update, the Zenith update, adding a New Game Plus mode, a boss rush and a set of accessibility options, the studio confirmed on the PlayStation Blog.
What Zenith adds
The New Game Plus mode is called Eclipse Layers. After clearing the game for the first time, new nodes appear in the Armor Matrix in the Passage, the hub area, and unlocking them opens a gate to the next layer, which demands more Carcosan Modifiers to enter.
Boss-rush fans get Overlord Rush, a mode that puts each of the game’s main bosses up for a leaderboard spot. It is split into three sets: Incursion and Ascension each hold three Overlords, while Totality pits the player against all eight bosses in a row.
The update also brings 10 new Protection Modifiers and 10 new Trial Modifiers, 20 in all, to reshape runs. One of them, Corruption Melee Enhancement, expels Corruption to grant a damage boost on close-range strikes.
Accessibility options
Housemarque has added a Slow Game Speed setting that adjusts the speed of enemy bullet patterns, either as a manual toggle or automatically when projectiles are incoming. An Auto-fire option makes the character shoot at aimed enemies on its own, easing the focus on dodging, though reloads stay manual and perfect reloads still need a well-timed press. Game speed, motion-sensor aim and high contrast options round out the suite, all toggleable at any time.
The studio said it put a lot of thought into balancing features that make the game easier against its core identity. The additions land after a reception that praised Saros while some critics felt its easier difficulty compared to Returnal was an overcorrection.
The Zenith update went live on PlayStation 5 on 19 October 2026 alongside a new launch trailer. It is free for all owners of the game.
