使用生成式AI的游戏列表

List of games that use generative AI

There is now a Google Sheet which is being consistently updated as reports show up and replies are made in this thread. Please refer to it for up-to-date info on games that utilize generative AI, and if you have anything to submit then please respond to this thread.

A massive thanks to SanTheSly for creating it, and RysultSet for revamping it to work properly.

I wanted to make this thread to compile a comprehensive list of games that use generative AI in their development. I am personally VERY averse to generative AI being used in game development, so having a list of all games that use it would be quite helpful so we all know who not to support. This is absolutely NOT to shame devs, most of the time this is imposed by greedy cost-cutting publishers

This does NOT include games that use AI to upscale textures, and it's not talking about regular NPC AI that has existed for decades at this point. I am specifically talking about generative AI.

I appreciate the resource.

Deadlock uses AI for Character design?

Kudo

You should list sources as you go, I had no idea Witchfire or Deadlock devs used genAI too. Real shame if true and will be removing those from my wishlist.

SirKai

Yeah, I also need to the see the receipts on Deadlock using it for character design. Valve has the best character designers in the business.

Deadlock uses AI for Character design?

This comes from one interview in Russian from one artist who said he uses AI as a reference and that Valve used one of his designs for Vindicta, so, not the most damning thing I've ever read.

Hiawatha

Witchfire uses it in their concept art visible in the game? That's crazy. I have over a hundred hours in that game and never noticed.
Incredible game with some of the best moment to moment gunplay next to Destiny.

Gonna add a source to each one, thanks

Anno 117 unfortunately.

Ubisoft claimed it's one piece of artwork that was "accidentally" left in and will be patched out. But I wouldn't be surprised if all the loading screen art was AI-generated.

The Alters was a pretty big one this year. They used genAI for some localizations and "placeholder" text for computer screens and such. Probably more stuff we didn't notice, since the studio really rushed to defend their use of it.

Thank you for doing this. This list is much needed and should be pinned to the top of the forum

Ciao

Thread watched, thanks a lot for making it!

With Arc Raiders and The Finals they might have paid the VAs that they used to fine-tune their model. But they sure as fuck didn't pay the thousands of people whose voice was used to create said model.
This is a pretty common excuse used to defend AI usage "We trained the model on our own art". It always means that they started with an existing model (which was built by stealing people's art) and then used their own art/voice/whatever to do the final tuning. No game studio has the volume of content necessary to create a model from scratch.

Kudo

Gonna add a source to each one, thanks

It'll help to add credibility, thank you for using your time to do this thread.

Isn't Everybody's Golf just using Speedtree? Speedtree is way older than AI, it was used in the original version of Oblivion

SpellSwordFoxx

this is great, will be watchin this thread for updates.

makes me wonder if GTA VI will get caught using it somewhere...i assume not but you never know

THPS3+4 uses AI for in-game stuff like the deck designs and graffiti.

It pains me, but Expedition 33 apparently used it for placeholder art and one example made it into the release game. (Although I'm skeptical of anyone who says "it was a placeholder").

Metal Eden uses AI to voice "a few voice lines".

UPDATE, so I was looking for a source and I lost it since I was getting sources after making the list. I took it off since it's completely unfair to put something I can't prove, but I think I saw it somewhere. My apologies, I'm only gonna be adding things that I have sources for from now on.

Clair Obscur devs admitted to using it, but claimed it was only for for "placeholders", patching out at least one example that was discovered.

Where Winds Meet uses it in some NPC, but sadly hasn't gotten as much attention here because the one thread talking about didn't just say that upfront and went off about what a player talked an NPC into thinking.

Frell

(Although I'm skeptical of anyone who says "it was a placeholder").

It's Schrödinger's placeholder, it only becomes a real placeholder is someone calls you out.

Placeholder examples are so damn baffling too.

Like...you want those to be exactly the sort of thing that won't slip through into the final version. That demands human shitposting instincts.

I really worry about GTA 6 just because it's massive size that their is going to be something...

what do you guys think?

SofNascimento

I think you should have saved a few posts to update the list as it grows, OP.

NightShift

Front Mission 3 Remake unfortunately. Was really looking forward to that one. :(

PLASTICA-MAN

Well thanks for the OT, this needs to happen so stuff liek that get exposed and never get buried.

Appreciate it, I couldn't believe it since the devs seem to take the art side of the game seriously but you never know. If you come across it lmk but for now I'll keep my hype pants on.

Yeah last I heard they just erroneously labeled procedural generation(speed tree) as AI. They also mislabeled use of Vocaloid software as AI. Seems to be a misunderstanding of the disclosure in Japanese

Also, placeholder work is a paid gig.
Expedition 33 does not get a pass for using gen AI for placeholder work, as much as this forum is in love with the game. calicoknux

That's my understanding. Props for them to trying to disclose but I don't believe it's GenAI

lowhighkang_LHK

Clair Obscur devs admitted to using it, but claimed it was only for for "placeholders", patching out at least one example that was discovered.

Again, placeholder work is a paid gig. There are legit jobs at stake if we normalize gen AI for the sake of "placeholders."

Saganator

Everyone's line on what is acceptable use of AI will be different, I feel like there needs to be some kind of scale rating system to accommodate. I have no idea who would create such a scale, wishful thinking it would be nice if was Valve/Steam, but I don't have high hopes for that.

Yup exactly. The Hot Shots situation is really shitty as there's no evidence they used actual generative AI. Don't even think it should have that Steam label and don't know how it happened. It should be removed from the OP unless more AI information comes up on it.

this gives me some reassurance that Rockstar won't be using gen ai in VI

Agreed, and I don't believe the excuse anyway, nor do I believe no AI-generated stuff is left in the game.

Mandos

Speed tree is in the opening licensing credits and it is the items they said were AI so yeah it's not GenAI

Stopdoor

If you're gonna do this you should probably also disclaimer that you're not counting generative AI used for coding - generally less controversial and I'm not sure if stores like Steam are even bothering to ask people to flag that but personally as a developer even if I also find it uncomfortable, it feels like coding editors are going to become increasingly passive with it in ways like auto complete where you'd have to be incredibly purposeful to make sure it's completely untouched.

Or count it I guess if you want, just would help credibility to be specific about what you're highlighting.

Could I get a source on E33? Can't find any actual articles on it.

Watched the video and the rough translation is that this particular dude has used AI to make references for his work (doesn't say if he has done that for Deadlock). This dude also worked on concept art for Marvel Rivals as per the video posted in the OP

lowhighkang_LHK

Yup. There are certainly more egregious uses of gen AI, but placeholder work can still be problematic. And it's strange why people seemingly give Expedition 33 a hand waive because it's placeholder. Before we know it we'll say concept art and storyboards are placeholder so it's okay.

SofNascimento

I'd like the games' themselves should tell us to what extend AI tools were used. In the dame way they tell us who worked in what.

JohnnyToonami

If this isn't genAI then this topic is already off to a terrible and problematic start.
Sorry, I hate genAI but you can't just add shit to the list without due diligence lmao.

Obviously Reddit isn't a primary source, but sources are referenced within. I'd look over it when you get the chance.

MourningBreakfast

Black Ops also uses it for its Loading Screen art and many in world art assets like posters and some billboards.

BertChintus

good idea on the thread, it is honestly depressing tho that we are already at the point that this needs a thread
