New-Look Astralis Top Stake Pulse Beat Group in Debut
Astralis have made an immediate impact with their rebuilt Counter-Strike 2 roster, winning Group C at Stake Pulse Beat III after victories over Sashi and HOTU.
The tournament in Stockholm marked the competitive debut of Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek and Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov following the organization’s latest roster overhaul.
Astralis first defeated Sashi 2-0 before surviving a much tougher three-map series against HOTU to secure a direct place in the playoffs.
Astralis Start With 2-0 Win Over Sashi
Astralis opened their campaign against Sashi.
Despite entering the tournament with almost no official experience as a five-man lineup, the international roster immediately produced a positive result.
Astralis won the series 2-0, taking Nuke 16-13 before closing Mirage 13-9.
Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas was Astralis’ best-rated player in the opener, recording a 1.41 rating.
The first victory also gave the team an early opportunity to test its new structure under tournament pressure.
The current Astralis lineup consists of:
- Love “phzy” Smidebrant
- Victor “Staehr” Staehr
- Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas
- Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov
- Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek
Filip “NEO” Kubski remains the team’s coach.
HOTU Push Astralis to Three Maps
The winners’ match proved significantly more difficult.
HOTU opened the series with a dominant performance on Dust2, winning Astralis’ first map 13-6.
Astralis responded on Ancient.
The map required overtime before the new roster eventually escaped with a 16-14 victory, forcing the deciding map.
On Nuke, however, Astralis took complete control.
They built a 10-2 advantage in the opening half and then quickly closed the map 13-2.
The final series score was 2-1.
For a lineup playing its first official tournament together, recovering from a heavy opening-map defeat was an encouraging early sign.
ryu Leads New Astralis Lineup
ryu was once again the standout player.
After his 1.41 rating against Sashi, the Lithuanian rifler posted a 1.55 rating against HOTU.
That performance placed him among the highest-rated players at Stake Pulse Beat III after the opening group action.
| Match | Result | ryu Rating |
|---|---|---|
| vs Sashi | 2-0 | 1.41 |
| vs HOTU | 2-1 | 1.55 |
| Group result | 1st place | Playoffs |
His early form gives Astralis another strong individual threat while the organization works to integrate its two new signings.
siuhy Begins New Chapter
siuhy joined Astralis after becoming a free agent earlier in October.
The Polish in-game leader had spent more than a year with Liquid before leaving the organization.
Astralis moved quickly to sign him during a major roster restructuring.
His arrival replaced Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen in the active lineup.
siuhy now has the difficult task of implementing a new system shortly before the upcoming Major.
That makes every official match particularly valuable.
Stake Pulse Beat III offers Astralis competitive preparation while also giving the roster an opportunity to establish roles and communication.
cmtry Moves Away From AWP Role
cmtry represents another significant tactical change.
The 19-year-old joined Astralis after being moved to FUT’s bench earlier in October.
Unlike his previous roles, cmtry is no longer expected to operate as the primary AWPer.
That responsibility remains with phzy.
Instead, cmtry has moved toward a rifling role within the Astralis setup.
The change means the Ukrainian must adapt to both a new team and a different position.
His signing was part of the same move that sent Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard to the bench.
Astralis Make Major Roster Gamble
The timing of the rebuild makes Astralis’ decision particularly notable.
HooXi and jabbi were benched only around a month before the Major, with both players approaching the final months of their contracts.
Astralis instead decided to compete with siuhy and cmtry.
The move also means Astralis no longer field a Danish-majority roster.
That is a major shift for an organization historically associated with Danish Counter-Strike.
The current project instead brings together players from Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland.
Early Results Give Astralis Momentum
Astralis entered the new roster period with existing momentum.
Before the changes, the organization had already won Stake Ranked Episode 4, beating teams including FaZe, BIG, fnatic and Luminosity during the run.
The new lineup has now continued that winning streak.
Its first two victories came against very different opponents.
Sashi tested Astralis in two competitive maps, while HOTU punished the team heavily on Dust2 before Astralis recovered.
That gives the new roster several useful scenarios to review before the playoffs.
The two opening victories showed:
- Astralis can close competitive maps under pressure
- The lineup recovered immediately after a one-sided loss
- ryu remains in strong individual form
- siuhy has started his leadership role with two series wins
Assessment
Astralis could hardly have asked for a better competitive start to their latest roster experiment.
The team did not dominate every map, but that arguably makes the opening run more valuable.
Against HOTU, Astralis were forced to recover after losing Dust2 13-6 and then survived an overtime battle on Ancient before crushing Nuke.
For a newly assembled lineup, resilience is just as important as clean victories.
ryu’s performance has been the biggest individual positive so far, while siuhy and cmtry have both started their Astralis careers with consecutive wins.
The larger test will come in the playoffs.
Stake Pulse Beat III is still an early stage for the new lineup, but topping the group immediately gives Astralis a strong foundation as they prepare for much bigger tournaments ahead.
