We’ve just released a new update for OFFBEAT, our weird and wonderful music production game, which is now sitting at Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam!!!! yippee yippee

The latest update is all about making more from what you’ve already got, introducing a brand new sampler that lets players chop up old tapes, import their own sounds and turn previous creations into something completely new. It arrives alongside two other new musical objects, 11 new jobs, guest sample tapes, a new Archive system and plenty more to experiment with.

As usual, to celebrate the launch of a new update, we’ve made another wonderful music video! Check it out below:

Here’s what’s new:

• Three new musical objects: a sampler for chopping up and recycling tapes, the strange and slightly haunted Autochord, and a coffee grinder offering bitcrush-style distortion.
• 11 new jobs: including soundtracking the news, chopping up a dumbass CEO’s voice memo and recording an EP.
• The Archive: browse previous tapes, load them back into the sequencer or throw them into the sampler to create something new.
• Import your own samples: players can now bring their own audio directly into OFFBEAT and use it with the sampler.
• Guest sample tapes: featuring sampler ready sounds from Alpha Chrome Yayo, dconn and more, spanning lo-fi chords, ambient soundscapes, breaks and drum loops.
• Mixolydian mode: Dorian’s slightly more major cousin has joined the party.
• More notebook content: including sampler sound recipes and a little more music theory.
• QOL improvements and bug fixes: including, finally, left and right arrows on the grid view.

Whether you’re digging through old tapes, chopping up your own samples or seeing what happens when you run absolutely everything and anything through a coffee grinder, there’s now even more to play with in OFFBEAT.
