Super Rare Originals and developer Jamie Rowan have announced that Lelu, a monochromatic Metroidvania, will launch on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 21, 2027. Players can get an early taste of the adventure during Steam Next Fest, with a playable demo running from October 19 to 25.

In Lelu, escaping an abandoned toy factory is easier said than done. Players take control of the adorable titular character and explore a massive, maze-like tower packed with deadly traps, tricky puzzles, and toys that are far more dangerous than they look. Sentient toys and towering clockwork titans stand in Lelu’s way, guarding the path to freedom.

Getting out won’t be a walk in the park, either. Players must dodge moving conveyor belts, navigate electrified circuits, and overcome a variety of environmental hazards. Thankfully, Lelu can unlock new abilities along the way, opening up fresh ways to tackle obstacles and explore the factory.

The game’s biggest visual draw is its striking black-and-white art style. By blending retro monochromatic visuals with modern pixel art and cartoon-inspired designs, Lelu gives its eerie factory a distinctive look that stands out from the crowd.

Want to see what the adventure has in store? The upcoming Steam Next Fest demo will feature the opening stage, introducing Lelu’s core mechanics, puzzles, and hidden abilities. Players can also help other toys as they search for a way out.
