Xbox CEO Asha Sharma 称将在聚焦大 IP 同时继续打造“持久”新 IP
[WC] Despite cuts, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wants to keep building "enduring" new IP: “We will not survive if we only revive on the past.”
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma 在近日 Xbox Town Hall 上表示,将在 backing 最强 Xbox franchises 的同时继续创造 enduring new IP,并称“只依赖过去无法生存”。
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has made no secret of her intent for content moving forward: Microsoft will double down on its biggest and most visible Xbox franchises, including the likes of Fallout, Call of Duty, Candy Crush, World of Warcraft, among others.
Some of Xbox's more eclectic studios, such as Ninja Theory, Double Fine, and Compulsion have either been spun off as separate, or outright shut down. These studios were all working on new franchises generally speaking, and while they didn't become financial success stories, the creativity was often award-winning.
Sharma's comments about Xbox's biggest franchises have left many wondering if there'd still be space for creativity and newness at Xbox, and it seems the answer is "yes," complete with a warning on over-relying on existing franchises.
"On content, I think this is probably the thing that you are all seeing the most about as we're making a lot of changes," Sharma said at the Xbox Town Hall this past week, in wholly unauthorized transcripts shared to Windows Central via multiple trusted sources.
Sharma reiterated the plan to focus on the biggest Xbox franchises, but also noted that relying on past victories won't help Xbox win the future.
"We're backing our strongest franchises. I want our great games to become great global billion-dollar franchises. I would also like to see us continue to create enduring new IP. We will not survive if we only revive on the past. We have to find new ways, and courage, to have invention on new IP, that reaches new sets of audiences."
Build me a new IP but lemme lay ya off first.
The past? Barely been touched. Some of it didn't even make it past the finish line.
Looking at Perfect Dark and pretty much any other Rare IP they own.
Yeah yeah yeah buzz words.
I want our great games to become great global billion-dollar franchises.
...uh huh......
We have to find new ways, and courage, to have invention on new IP, that reaches new sets of audiences.
...uh hmmmm..........
MS could have done this without spending billions on buying decades of old IPs.
can you actually commit to fixing that tho
ok so basically the coalition is dead
Nintendo seems to be doing alright
What don't they want to do
Aiqops
Uncle Works at Nintendo
Hard to build new ips if the people get fired after every game and never build a well oiled team for decades to come.

COpilot is building 3 games simultaneously.
To build something require workers.
How does MS expect to build the next best thing by laying off people? Are they gonna AI-prompt it to reality?
Can't build new IP if you atomize all your talent

Cool, see you in 7 years.
they dont even use their old ip
Go back and look at the end of show banner from E3 2015. Gears of War, Fable, Forza, Halo (also Tomb Raider which they had as a timed exclusive). That lineup was already solidified mid way through 2006.
Here we are in 2026. Gears of War just came out a few days ago, Fable is a few months away, Forza Horizon 6 just came out in May, and Halo is still around but it's in rough shape.
Past a certain point, Xbox has never been able to launch new IP and make it stick.
Do you think companies want town halls to be open to the public?
I'm afraid to know what Xbox needs courage for.
- takes 5 years to make a new Halo and it's a flawed remake of a previously remastered game missing the multiplayer suite the franchise is known for
- takes 6 years to make a new Gears (7 since the last TPS) and it's an under-marketed prequel with its PS5 version canned
- both extremely predictably underperform for those reasons and dozens other
"So clearly the issue is we're too reliant on our existing IP"
Ok
Can't wait to see this commitment to new IP when Clockwork Revolution ships.
Everytime she makes a statement another round of layoffs are on the horizon.
Nintendo seems to be doing alright
Nintendo isnt afraid of putting mario in an rpg or racing game
"We want new IP for new people, old IP to be global, and no devs bc fuck them me and my friends at the top need more money."
Was the main criteria for the next head of xbox who can speak the most out of both sides of their mouth? It's like every interview she gives.
Do you think companies want town halls to be open to the public?
These ones? Yeah.
All talk but very little results with this company man.
I will believe it when it happens, they haven't really made a new IP since the 360 days.
Build me a new IP but lemme lay ya off first.
lol

Killer Instinct Remake ? Confirmed.
She doesn't live in reality... Create some new billion-dollar franchises, something that Xbox surely hasn't ever tried in the 25 years they've been around... Sounds easy! /s
She also won't take an ounce of responsibilty for the way she fucked The Coallition over. She'll just fire them.
This shit is so fucking infuriating!

Clockwork Revolution has potential as a new IP IMO, and is actually a case of Microsoft greenlighting the development of it, the game wouldn't have been made without XBOX (and InXile would probably be making Wasteland 4 on a Kickstarter or something) but it depends on if Microsoft is willing to greenlight a sequel if the first game is an XBOX exclusive that doesn't sell all that well.
Lmao perfect

Thanks, Corden. I wouldn't have been able to translate this without the editorialization. Worse yet, I might even have leaned toward "no."
The CEO-brained gobbledygook has long stopped making sense.
"Build everything with 100x crunch. Also no to your budget. Also we're laying off half your team. Actually, all of your team. Sorry not sorry, it's necessary for our spreadsheet bean counters at the C-suite. Oh but also we'll build everything, yes, for half the money with no team because we laid everyone off but trust us it's totally going to work"
"Revive on the past" is not a phrase. Better just use AI next time, Asha.
BREAKING: Company executive wants to make money off old and new ideas

Xbox had Halo.
Xbox 360 had Gears of War.
Xbox One never had a generation defining IP.
At least they tried with Starfield even though it didn't come together as intended.

God help us the mods are making weekend threads
Ehhh, I think her tenure will be marked by retreating to and focusing on the biggest series they have. And that Clockwork game can't really be attributed to her.
"Lol just kidding here's 800 more layoffs."
It's a form of doublethink. Say one thing, do the opposite and somehow it still squares in these people's minds.
The past? Barely been touched. Some of it didn't even make it past the finish line.

It may hurt but Gears an Halo are "the past" lol
Another week,.another Xbox plan they'll abandon the minute it gets too costly.

there was just a thread yesterday how the dragon quest creator made some aislop in 30 minutes

It could be a decent little IP, but the kind of IP she's talking about or this new Xbox wants? No.
Do you think companies want town halls to be open to the public?
Companies prepare town halls as if the content is going to get leaked.
When is this corporate dipshit going to stop interviewing to get headline quotes?
Is that word supposed to be revive or rely?

The plan is the plan until we change it every 3 weeks.
