Clowntown Co-Op Minigame Party Launches on PC in January 2027

Batterystaple Games has announced that its co-op minigame game Clowntown will launch on PC via Steam in January 2027, according to a press release from the developer. The announcement came during The MIX Fall Games Showcase on October 16, and a demo is already on Steam.

Clowntown supports two to eight players, locally or online. Steam still lists an exact release date as “to be announced,” and no price has been announced.

A 5-6 Hour Campaign of Mostly Co-Op Minigames

The campaign runs about five to six hours, with hand-designed minigames that start simple and morph in unexpected ways, all under the watch of a scheming Ringmaster.

Examples include Spelling Bee, where players spell simple words one letter at a time, and Spelling Wasp, which adds absurd words like “polytetrafluoroethylene” under time pressure. Bees Spelling then adds clown-firing cannons and literal bees to collect, which is a sentence nobody expected to write.

Friendship Test asks questions like your favorite fruit, while Trivia asks which player is about to die. PvP levels such as Fall Clowns and Charging Slammers make every clown fend for themselves.

Game Modes, Customization and Languages

Four players competing on a large painting easel during a Clowntown minigame.

Players paint across an easel in one of the many cooperative and competitive minigames featured in Clowntown.

Party Mode replays the absurd moments, Co-Op Mode serves curated minigame runs, and Contest Mode flips co-op games into something more sinister. Players can customize their clown’s costume and choose from more than 30 honk types.

Languages at launch are English, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, German, Korean, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Founder Chris King said it’s been a joy to make a game of “everything that made the team laugh,” according to the press release. The studio’s previous projects, 20XX and 30XX, have sold more than 500,000 copies across Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.

With no exact day or price yet, players who want to try it before January can use the demo, and an eight-player lobby is the real test of friendship. Batterystaple is posting updates on Bluesky and X.
