We sure hope you like Conan Exiles and Dune: Awakening a bunch because those two games appear to be the only things that Funcom is going to zero in on. The developer announced that it is undergoing a restructuring process that will aim attention to the two survival sandboxes and ultimately lead to an unspecified number of layoffs.

“As Funcom aligns its organization with this new focus, the company will also enter a period of restructuring. This will mean reducing the size of the organization and, sadly, saying goodbye to valued colleagues,” reads a press release from the studio. “The process begins now, and out of respect for the employees involved, Funcom will not share further details until it has concluded.”

In addition to the layoffs, Funcom CEO Rui Casais will also be stepping down by the end of the year, with chief product officer Scott Junior named as his replacement. “Moving from full production into long-term post-launch development and operations requires a different organization,” Casais says in a statement. “While we would have wanted everyone who helped build Dune: Awakening to continue with us, we cannot sustain the size and structure required during peak development as we move into this next phase.”

Readers will no doubt recall that in 2025, Funcom had laid off developers of Dune: Awakening as they were preparing to work on the game’s console release, in spite of the game being largely successful. All that we can only hope for is that the number of affected workers find their feet soon.
