Embark Studios detailed THE FINALS Season 12, Prime Time, in a post on Steam titled ‘Welcome to a New Era of THE FINALS’ on 20 October: a solo elimination mode called Solo Showdown joins a reworked Light class, new gadgets and deeper destruction.

In interviews around the reveal, two of the studio’s developers said the batch of changes is meant to make it easier for new players to get invested in the game.

Solo Showdown explained

Solo Showdown breaks from the game’s usual shape. THE FINALS’ primary mode, Cashout, sends teams of three after a vault, but the new mode puts players in alone: 12 enter, the bottom four are cut each round, and the mode runs across three rounds as a set of mini-games.

Each mini-game is built around a particular build and archetype. One example, Boom Brawl, makes every player a sword-wielding Light who drops throwable bombs on death.

Lights up, Heavies down

The health rebalance gives Light builds 25 more health and takes 25 from Heavy builds, pulling both closer to the Medium class. Comparable season reworks elsewhere include an Overwatch Season 5 patch that reworked Sombra and Roadhog.

The new Light playstyle centres on True Sight, a reworked version of Thermal Vision that dulls the world and highlights enemies in their team’s colour through any non-solid object, without granting full wall hacks. Two gadgets join the kit: the Translocator swaps the player’s place with an object while keeping that object’s momentum, and the Mimic Device turns the player into an object with all its properties, so they can be thrown and exploded like the real thing.

Cracks and commentary

Destruction changes as well: broken walls and floors now crack in spiderweb patterns, and the pieces can collapse under footsteps or rumble while each keeps its own physics. The AI host Scotty now announces contestant names as they do things in the arena, though fellow host June does not have that capability yet.

Sponsors have been reworked with cinematics, themed customisation items and boosted backgrounds. The developers ruled out a Prop Hunt mode.
