This is what you would get without my provider...
Warcraft III Windows 7 Battle.net Compatibility Provider v1.0
This tool is intended to restore Warcraft III Battle.net connectivity on the specific Windows 7 SP1 x64 configuration on which it was developed and tested.
IMPORTANT
This is an independent compatibility project.
It is not affiliated with, supported by, or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft, AVG, or OpenAI.
Warcraft III must still be launched normally through the official Battle.net desktop launcher and connected to Blizzard's official services.
WHAT IT DOES
The connection failure investigated on the validated Windows 7 system was traced to the Windows Schannel / ncrypt provider-interface boundary.
On this system, the compatible provider path exposes a version-2 interface containing slots 0 through 25, while the current ncrypt path expects the version-3 extension.
The compatibility provider preserves the existing provider behavior and exposes the required version-3 interface entries:
- slots 0 through 25 are preserved;
- slot 26 uses the real native SslComputeSessionHash callback;
- slot 27 uses the real native SslGeneratePreMasterKey callback;
- real nonzero error statuses are preserved;
- resolver failure remains NTE_NOT_SUPPORTED;
- no successful security result is fabricated.
The tool does NOT:
- redirect Battle.net traffic;
- emulate Blizzard authentication;
- fabricate tokens or credentials;
- bypass account authentication;
- patch Warcraft III;
- replace Microsoft system DLLs;
- modify Blizzard game files;
- redirect Warcraft III to another server;
- force failed cryptographic operations to succeed.
TESTED RESULT
On the Windows 7 x64 machine used during development and validation:
- installation completed successfully ✔
- Windows was rebooted ✔
- Warcraft III was launched from the official Battle.net launcher ✔
- Battle.net connectivity worked normally inside Warcraft III ✔
- Multiplayer opened successfully ✔
- an actual game remained stable ✔
- a map download completed successfully ✔

INSTALL.bat checks the Windows version and these hashes before making any change.
If the precheck fails, DO NOT bypass it.
A different Windows 7 build or binary set has not been validated by this release. Other independently developed community variants may exist for different Windows 7 binary sets; see a few sections below.
INSTALLATION
1. Close Warcraft III and Battle.net.
2. Extract the complete ZIP.
3. Right-click INSTALL.bat.
4. Choose "Run as administrator".
5. Wait for the precheck.
A supported system should report:
PRECHECK PASS=True
6. After successful installation, keep INSTALL_REPORT.txt.
7. Reboot Windows once.
8. Start the official Battle.net desktop launcher.
9. Launch Warcraft III from Battle.net.
REMOVAL
1. Close Warcraft III and Battle.net.
2. Run REMOVE.bat as Administrator.
3. Keep REMOVE_REPORT.txt if an error is reported.
4. Reboot Windows once.
COMMUNITY VARIANTS / OTHER WINDOWS 7 BUILDS
The public v1.0 release above is intentionally limited to the exact Windows 7 SP1 x64 binary set on which it was developed and validated.
However, the underlying research has already been successfully adapted to another Windows 7 cryptographic binary set.
Blizzard US Forum user Architect independently reproduced the investigation on his own Windows 7 SP1 x64 system and created a separate compatibility variant.
His variant was tested on:
Windows 7 SP1 x64
Windows version: 6.1.7601
with the following exact system DLL hashes:
schannel.dll

This is a separate community fork developed and maintained by Architect. I did not build or independently validate his release, so users whose binaries match that configuration should follow the documentation, integrity checks and installation instructions provided in his repository.
Do NOT bypass the precheck of my v1.0 release simply because your hashes are different, and do not mix files or components from different compatibility variants.
If your Windows 7 binary set matches Architect's documented configuration, use the variant specifically developed for that system instead.
WINDOWS 8
Windows 8 is NOT supported or validated by v1.0.
I currently do not know whether the same problem exists on Windows 8, whether the same provider-interface layout applies, or whether a different implementation would be necessary.
The installer therefore deliberately rejects Windows 8.
Please do not remove that protection simply to try the Windows 7 binary.
For developers or Windows-internals specialists interested in adapting this work to Windows 8, another Windows 7 revision, or another Windows build, do NOT simply remove the installer protections or rebuild the v1.0 provider against a different system.
Treat the exact target system as a separate reverse-engineering target.
A useful investigation path is:
- record the exact versions and SHA-256 hashes of
schannel.dll,ncrypt.dll,bcrypt.dllandbcryptprimitives.dll; - reproduce the failure on that exact system and determine where the Schannel / ncrypt path returns
NTE_NOT_SUPPORTEDor another relevant error; - compare the target cryptographic binaries with a known working/validated build;
- determine whether
SslComputeSessionHashandSslGeneratePreMasterKeyare genuinely absent, merely not exported, or present internally but unreachable through the provider interface used by that build; - map the relevant Schannel/ncrypt call paths, dependencies and provider tables;
- use runtime tracing where necessary to confirm what Schannel actually requests before attempting any compatibility layer or backport;
- determine the provider-interface version, table size and dispatch layout expected by the target build. Do NOT assume that another Windows revision uses the same version gate or the same slot numbers as the validated v1.0 system;
- if the required native functionality is missing entirely, implement or backport that functionality first. A simple v2-to-v3 provider-interface extension is only meaningful once the required underlying callbacks actually exist;
- if the investigation reaches the same interface boundary as the validated v1.0 system, preserve the existing provider table rather than modifying unrelated storage in place. On the validated system, the original version-2 interface was copied into larger storage, slots 0 through 25 were preserved exactly, the relocated copy was promoted to version 3, and the real native
SslComputeSessionHashandSslGeneratePreMasterKeycallbacks were exposed through slots 26 and 27; - preserve the real behavior of the underlying provider: existing nonzero error statuses must remain errors, callback-resolution failure must remain
NTE_NOT_SUPPORTED, and no successful cryptographic or security result should be fabricated; - validate the resulting provider experimentally on the exact target system, including normal Warcraft III launch through the official Battle.net desktop launcher and actual Battle.net use;
- finally, add fail-closed checks for the exact system binaries that were actually reverse-engineered and validated.
Repeating the ClientSdk runtime deciphering work should normally not be necessary unless the target Windows build causes Warcraft III to follow a different application-side path. For most compatibility variants, the primary reverse-engineering target should be the Windows Schannel / ncrypt / CNG boundary itself.
INSTALLATION PATHS
Warcraft III and Battle.net do not need to be installed on C:.
The tool does not depend on a fixed Warcraft III or Battle.net path and does not modify the game files.
Windows system paths are resolved from the running Windows environment.
The actual test machine used C:\Windows, so a Windows installation whose system directory itself is located on another drive has not been separately validated.
AVG / ANTIVIRUS
AVG interfered with installation on the Windows 7 machine used during development by blocking some of the compatibility files.
Once the verified files were allowed to install, no further AVG-related problem was observed during normal Warcraft III / Battle.net use.
If AVG or another antivirus blocks or quarantines one of the files:
- do not continue with an incomplete package;
- verify the SHA-256 hashes;
- restore or allow only files matching the official release;
- then run INSTALL.bat again.
A specific allow-list or exclusion for the verified release files is preferable to broadly weakening antivirus protection.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This compatibility tool was developed through a long iterative investigation performed with ChatGPT by OpenAI, together with repeated experiments on the affected Windows 7 machine.
Windows 7 already supported TLS 1.2 and many of the primitives required for modern communications; the work involved identifying and then restoring the missing compatibility path between Schannel and its cryptographic provider.
I want to be transparent about my own role:
I am a novelist, not a software engineer.
I do not have formal qualifications in Windows internals, cryptography, security engineering, reverse engineering, or operating-system development.
I can document what was investigated, what was tested, and what worked on the validated machine, but I may not be able to answer detailed technical questions, debug other Windows configurations, or provide individual technical support.
The technical information is published so that people with the appropriate expertise can independently inspect, reproduce, improve, or adapt the work.
