近期 PS5 PS5SX2 自制软件实现 PS2 与 PS3 光盘向后兼容

About half a decade ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment attempted to shutter the PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Vita stores. However, pushback instead prolonged the storefront’s longevity for a few years more. That was until earlier this summer the PlayStation firm announced it will officially close the marketplaces for both systems later in 2027 whilst soft preparations were made in select regions starting this August.

Paired with the demise of its physical media for all platforms starting in 2028, how could players properly enjoy legacy games from their libraries? Well, its PlayStation Plus tiers do offer a collection of retro-fitted ports for PlayStation 5, but it is only tied to the subscription. Back in 2022, there were a string of reports pointing to potential PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility. Of course, that never materialized and likely hinted at what Project Spartacus later became.

Now in 2026, fans & modders have found a way to natively launch PlayStation 2 & PlayStation 3 titles on the PlayStation 5. Alongside properly emulating the platform and a notable size of the system’s library on PC, modders are now able to incorporate its legacy portfolio as well with proprietary media alike on XBOX already.

“PS5SX2 is a passion project. It started as a ‘can this even work?’ experiment, done in spare time out of love for the PS2’s library and the fun of seeing those games on new hardware. There’s no company or schedule behind it, and nothing is for sale,” the GitHub description reads. “Native, not streamed. The emulator, its recompilers and its renderer all run on the console itself.” @sword_pdf on X also demonstrated the jailbreak app is applicable to PlayStation 3 alongside PlayStation 2.

This is not the first instance of modders using homebrews to offer features not implemented by Sony. For the PlayStation Vita, there is a Rust client that enables connectivity to XBOX Game Pass, its servers, and the libraries provided through the subscription.
