DICE has outlined several upcoming changes for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC in a Season 5 Discord Q&A, covering persistent server browser lobbies, Platoons, map reworks, weapon balancing, and future vehicle customization. The developers also confirmed that additional details about content planned beyond Season 5 will arrive early in the new year.
Server Browser and Platoons Updates
The Server Browser is set to feature persistent lobbies, allowing players to remain on the same server between matches. Players who use Custom Search or official playlists will also be matched into official servers listed in the browser, although they may leave between matches depending on their selected maps and modes. DICE currently plans to make the Server Browser the first tile in the Quickplay menu for Battlefield 6 owners. In Portal, players will see separate tiles for Verified Experiences and custom servers featuring user-created experiences. A dedicated blog post explaining the Server Browser is also planned.
Platoons will arrive in Season 5 Phase 3, with a dedicated tab expected in the main menu. Players will be able to create a platoon name, tag, and description, while playing with their platoon will provide an XP bonus. Platoon management and hierarchy will be handled through the in-game EA Connect interface.
DICE is also planning to expand Spectator Mode with the Elite Series during Season 5. Multiplayer leaderboards are expected to go live later in the season, with internal testing currently underway.
Proximity chat will be available in Rapid Royale in the near future for additional testing and telemetry collection. DICE remains committed to bringing the feature to multiplayer but says more work is needed before it can be implemented.
Season 5 Roadmap and Map Changes
DICE has already planned content for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC beyond Season 5, with further information expected early in the new year. The team also confirmed that a sizable amount of hardware content is planned, and classic weapons such as the M9 have not been forgotten.
Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City are scheduled for reworks in Season 5 Phase 3. DICE also explained that weather effects will continue to depend on individual maps. Future maps could introduce rain, snow, or nighttime conditions, either as event-based changes or features suited to a map’s particular biome.
The developers are also interested in bringing back Carrier Strike and Gauntlet Fighter Sweep in future seasons. However, there are currently no plans to add Fort Lyndon points of interest to every core multiplayer mode.
Strikepoint continues to have bugs that have proved difficult to resolve. DICE said the mode’s relatively low popularity has made it harder to prioritize those fixes over issues affecting more players. The team also confirmed that developers from Motive, including staff who worked on the Dead Space remake, contributed to the game’s Dead Space event.
Matchmaking and Multiplayer Issues
DICE is aware of a bug preventing some players from connecting to Portal servers and plans to address it in a future update. The team is also reviewing potential Ranked Matchmaking changes intended to alleviate issues affecting players in the Asia-Pacific region and South America.
PC players should not expect a dedicated option to disable crossplay for now, as DICE has no current plans to add one.
Weapon Balancing and Class Adjustments
DICE is conducting a comprehensive review of gadgets, with the Support Pouch among the items receiving particular attention. The Assault class is also a focus because several of its gadgets are not performing as intended. The developers want to use the gameplay data collected since launch to guide their adjustments.
Some Training Paths are also considered less useful than others, and DICE has identified them as candidates for rebalancing.
Sniper rifle counter-sniping is another area under review. The team is considering changes that could increase sway or dispersion when players are being counter-sniped, potentially extending to aim deviation when a player is hit.
DICE has completed a balance pass on the Minigun and Railgun. Meanwhile, broader gunplay adjustments are planned for Season 5 Phase 2, affecting both traditional multiplayer and REDSEC. Some changes have already been made to REDSEC in preparation for the upcoming Elite Series.
The developers have no plans to introduce Actuated Module variants that reduce recoil or improve aim-down-sights speed. According to DICE, the attachment is based on real technology designed to stabilize a firearm while aiming, and its current gameplay effects reflect that purpose.
Attachment costs are also under review. DICE recognizes that some options are expensive enough to see little or no use and is considering targeted changes to make them more viable. The team has also heard feedback about 3D spotting when firing and is considering alternatives, although it views the mechanic as an additional layer of tactical depth rather than something to remove outright.
DICE additionally clarified that dispersion, also known as bullet spread, bloom, or random bullet deviation, has not changed in recent updates.
Vehicle Updates and Customization
DICE is investigating whether the new two-seat jets can be added to more maps. However, technical performance and game balance issues must be addressed before that expansion can happen.
Jet customization is planned for Season 6. The update is expected to provide weapon customization options for all launch jets across both factions.
The team is also exploring balance changes and new abilities for Scout and Attack Helicopters. One potential addition for the Attack Helicopter is the TV Missile, but DICE wants to improve the weapon before introducing it to other vehicles. No release timeline has been established for these changes.
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Season 5, titled Siege of Vegas, began on October 13, 2026, with content scheduled to roll out across three phases through the end of the year. The season includes new battlefields, weapons, squad features, Battle Pass content, and a Dead Space crossover event.
