4A Games has released the Next-Gen Update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux and shared its full patch notes. So, let’s see what this next-gen patch brings to the table.

The Next-Gen Update adds support for AMD FSR, NVIDIA DLSS, and 4A TSR. It also removes the frame rate cap, so your FPS now depends on your hardware. The update fixes bugs tied to high frame rates and improves graphics, sound, and controller support.

What’s interesting here is that we get a new Neural Rendering setting once you enable DLSS. Some speculate that this is native support for DLSS 5. I’m currently downloading the game to try it myself. If this is indeed a setting for DLSS 5, I’ll be sure to capture and share some comparison shots.

Both games now offer better image quality. The update adds Screen Space Global Illumination, more detailed geometry, and higher-quality textures. It also supports 4K textures and improves PBR materials, which help surfaces look more real. Animations and sound have also been improved. Spatial audio support adds a greater sense of space to the sounds around you. The update also enables Advanced PhysX by default on PC.

The patch fixes many issues that made the games hard to run on modern PCs. It improves stability on Windows 11, AMD GPUs, and high-refresh-rate displays. It fixes crashes on startup and during chapter changes, as well as freezes at splash screens and loading screens. It also fixes black screens, endless loading, and crashes linked to newer graphics drivers.

There are also fixes for lighting and display issues. The update fixes missing screen resolutions, broken fullscreen mode, stretched images, and wrong aspect ratios. It also fixes flickering shadows, shimmering textures, unstable ambient occlusion, and broken post-processing effects. Other fixes address pixelated bloom, missing volumetric lighting, broken shadows, and white halos around objects.

Gameplay bugs have not been left out. One fix stops weapons from getting stuck in an endless reload loop if you interrupt the act of burning cobwebs. Another fixes enemies that could spot you through walls or in the dark. The update also fixes a bug that could make you die from toxic air even while wearing a gas mask.

The save system has received several key fixes. Steam Cloud can now upload save data as intended. The update also fixes missing saves, corrupted files, old checkpoints loading by mistake, and crashes or endless loading when loading a checkpoint. It improves save reliability if you quit the game while it is saving. It also stops the game from creating checkpoints when you have too little filter time left, which could trap you in a loop of repeated deaths.

PC controls have also been improved. The patch restores missing default keyboard bindings and fixes mouse sensitivity issues. It also fixes problems with DualSense and Xbox controllers, including controllers not being detected, missing buttons, and failed button remapping. Mouse cursors that got stuck at the edge of the screen on multi-monitor setups should no longer be an issue.

The update also brings fixes for both games. In Metro 2033 Redux, it fixes several bugs that could block progress or break key scenes. These include a frozen Demon in “Outpost,” problems collecting a weapon at the start, and broken mechanisms in “D6.” It also improves performance in “Torchlight” and fixes issues with Khan’s men, the Library encounter, the ending cutscene, and achievements.

In Metro: Last Light Redux, the patch fixes a bug that could block the boss fight in “The Garden.” It also restores stealth takedowns and kills from the “Revolution” chapter onward. Other fixes address a crash when buying the RPK in Venice, a blocked section in the “Khan” DLC, and a bug that could push the player out of bounds in “Nightfall.”

There are a few more platform-specific changes. The update adds adaptive triggers for the DualSense controller and impulse triggers for Xbox controllers. It also adds a power-optimized mode for Xbox Ally, Xbox Ally X, and the Microsoft Store version. The Epic Games Store version now has Epic Online Services integration for achievements and accounts.

As always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below, you can also find its full patch notes.

Community-Reported Bug Fixes

Apply to PC platforms:

Stability

  • Improved stability on modern PC hardware (Windows 11, AMD GPUs, high-refresh-rate displays), including crashes during chapter transitions and on launch.

  • Fixed a crash when picking up a gas mask.

  • Fixed hard freezes at splash screens, on “Press Any Button” and during chapter loads.

  • Fixed infinite loading screens and black screens after the intro logos, particularly on newer AMD hardware.

  • Fixed freezes during level transitions and scripted sequences, and crashes with newer graphics drivers.

Gameplay

  • Fixed the weapon getting stuck in an endless reload animation and being unable to fire if burning cobwebs was interrupted by reloading or switching weapons.

  • Fixed enemies detecting the player through darkness and through walls, and their alert state escalating instantly.

Saves

  • Fixed Steam Cloud not uploading save data.

  • The game no longer creates a checkpoint when the player has too little filter time left. This prevents saves where the player suffocates before they can find more filters.

  • Fixed save corruption on PS5 that made later chapters (after “Regina”) unavailable and reset inventory after the console had been powered off for a long period.

  • Fixed crashes and infinite loading when loading a checkpoint, including after repeated reloads.

  • Improved save reliability when the game is quit or interrupted while autosaving.

  • Fixed checkpoints being created when the player had too few filters, which could trap the player in a death loop.

  • Fixed save files disappearing, “Continue” loading an older checkpoint, and saves becoming corrupted after a crash or improper shutdown.

Controls

  • Restored default keyboard bindings that were missing after a previous update.

  • Fixed the DualSense Wireless Controller not being recognized in the Steam version.

  • Fixed the mouse cursor getting stuck at the edge of the screen in menus and vendor screens on multi-monitor setups.

  • Fixed the title screen displaying incorrectly if the game lost focus straight after launch.

  • Fixed the game not starting in full screen on first launch on 4K monitors with display scaling enabled.

  • Fixed missing modern resolutions (such as 1440p and 4K) and the game being limited to legacy resolutions like 1600×1200.

  • Fixed fullscreen not working, and fixed stretched images and incorrect aspect ratios on high-resolution monitors.

  • Improved lighting and shadow quality, fixing pixelated bloom, broken shadows, missing volumetric lighting and white halo artifacts (e.g. Hunter intro, searchlights, backlit corridors).

  • Fixed flickering shadows, shimmering textures, unstable SSAO and broken post-processing on modern GPUs and ultrawide displays.

METRO 2033 Redux

  • Fixed the Demon freezing in mid-air during its grab attack in “Outpost”.

  • Improved performance in “Torchlight”.

  • Fixed being unable to collect the weapon from the armorer at the start of the game, which blocked progress.

  • Fixed Khan and his men freezing in place or firing endlessly after the player plants the bomb in “Khan” (Turgenevskaya), and fixed the freeze / black screen when loading the last checkpoint there.

  • Fixed the player getting stuck with no cutscene after finishing the encounter in “Library”.

  • Fixed the crane, magnet and lever mechanisms near the end of the game not responding in “D6”.

  • Fixed the ending cutscene not playing after finishing the game.

  • Fixed achievements not unlocking even though their requirements were met, including “Armorer”.

  • Fixed achievement progress made offline not syncing after reconnecting.

METRO Last Light Redux

  • Fixed the bear staying knocked out during the boss fight in “The Garden”, which blocked progress.

  • Fixed stealth knockouts and kills being unavailable from the “Revolution” chapter onwards.

  • Fixed a crash when buying the RPK into an empty third weapon slot at the Venice armory.
